If the board went out and got him and just used the money from gardner to get barton's wages which they could afford then ALOT of this negative attitude towards them would disappear

Imagine what would happen to the morale in the changing room if he came in, it would disrupt everything. I personally wouldnt want him as it would be mean a lot of disruntled Blues players.

Barton is a thug, but under Hughton he did seem to get better, and Barton said he knows he has been very silly but he wants to change and give 100% to doing his best on the pitch.

I cant see Barton playing for less than £35K a week and i think thats a massive risk. I am sure Barton is a Newcastle player and its only because they do not want to take the option on him why he is a free agent.

Pretty much like McFadden with us, he is free to go, but we could have activated his option only we did not because the wages was too high, we tried to see if he would take a big wage cut but he would not.

I think Barton on loan would be good, but as he would be a potential free agent thats not a option.

A £25K a week deal with a Promotion Clause say £15K pay rise or even double (as their is no fee) could be a good bit of business.

But we dont know if he would come, and i dont think we can afford to offer him any kind of deal he would want.

If we want some guile in the midfield then Dave Jones is free and the cheaper option.

Well i dont think we would sign anyone for more than £20K a week and would be aiming for even half that for most players to go into the starting XI

And so Barton would not go anywhere for a penny less than £30K a week, so there is no chance at all really

I'd like jones too and you keep mentioning him still but as far as I'm aware (tom ross and colin tattum) twitter say he turned us down due to the clubs financial situation and selling of key players and he doesn't believe we have much chance of going up.

On another note seems some others are now claiming that Carew is in talks with Blues and that Jones is weighing up his options.

I wont hold my breath but if indeed it comes out we made contact with him then i guess the guy who told me a week ago is not talking BS!

I think a lot would come down to wages though, i am sure they would be trying to sign players for £5-10K a week with a £15K wage limit used for a few signings such as King.

I am not sure we would be prepared to offer more than £15K a week for either Jones or Carew, unless its a £10K deal that can double if promoted.

I agree some players would be put off at the potential of our future, Yeung getting arrested and all the worry of a potential administration would indeed put off potental signings.

The thing is though who does Dave Jones think he is, Wolves did not want to keep him and honestly i think a Wolves, WBA, Wigan or one of the Promoted sides would be the best he could hope for and even then he would not get regular games.

Jones is a Promotion chassing Championship Player or a newly promoted Prem Player.

Looking around some other forums seems his wage demands would be over £40K a week and so that rules us out aswell as many other clubs.

I think only clubs like Everton, Villa, Bolton, Fulham, Sunderland and Stoke would be in the market for a player like him.

Other clubs would either not pay that or afford it , or big clubs that Barton would not even get games i.e Top 6

I think Villa may look at him myself.

Wouldn't couldn't afford Barton even if we were in the premiership. Villa and Everton have been made favourites for his signiture but I don't think either of them will pay his wages either.

We couldn't afford Carew either the board don't want players on premiership wages.

Now even if you are a glass half full kind of supporter you must of read all the comments about players on premiership wages and how we can't afford them, so how could we afford Carew or Barton?

I tend to agree with you on this one Banjo... Barton is the kind of player McLeish would pay over the odds for... and then leave him on the bench all season

If we was in the Prem without Yeungs arrest then i dont think Barton on a free would have been out of our reach.

We could have signed Hleb had we stayed up for £3M on loan we paid £50K a week, at one point Hleb, Zigic, Martins and Bentley was costing us about £175K a week.

But now we are in the championship off course we could not afford the wages Barton would want, thats why we are desperate to offload Zigic and why we never kept Bowyer, sold Ferguson and loaned out Foster as anything over £1M a season wages is just something we cant afford.

Yes we could not afford to sign the likes of Carew or Heskey on their wages they last had...

Then again do you think Bents next club would pay him over £25K a week, Marcus Bent would be lucky to get £10K a week now.

Take Santa Cruz he would know that no club would pay him even 1/3rd of what Man City pay him.

I would think Barton knows no club will pay £50K+ for him.

With Carew if we dont sign him, or are not even looking at him. I would bet who ever signed him wont end up paying more than £25K a week, more likely £15-20K a week.

A lot of these players were signed by their respective clubs as 'sliced bread' players. Marquee signings.

Several turned out to be the equivalent of a crusty cob. Over the odds and not enough quality.

Over inflated wages to match the ego and no-one else will touch them.

Saying that we all have a price where its not worth getting out of bed in the morning.

Striker wise, Kamara from Fulham is on a free and still has not signed for anyone, worth a punt? I think so!

Thats a strange one because some places it shows he has signed for a Turkish side, others he is free agent like Derbyshire some say he is free agent others that he is still part of that Greek side.

If we signed Kamara and Derbyshire then i think those pair would in addition to King and Rooney give us one of the best Strike options in the Championship.

I think a lot depends on who we shift out.

More and more outlets are reporting interest in Carew and it will depend on his wage demands and offloading Zigic wages.

I think if we got him and Forsell in then we would have a very good chance of going up.

If it was down to me, and if we had the cash i would go for Derbyshire on a free and also take SEB from Wolves on loan.

King, SEB and Derbyshire would get a lot more goals than we managed in our previous 2 Promotion campaigns as far as from Strikers.
