Exactly. I'm not sure whether I was the Rooney contract that broke that or not, personally I think it was but it has never been confirmed by anyone.
----------------------------

I recall that Roy Keane's contract back in the day broke our wage structure, which I think had a 40k limit. Not sure if it destroyed the tier system we had though.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Beck's that had a hand in the destruction of that.

Yeah good point, I remember something about Keanes as well.

The interesting thing with Rooneys will be whether it does have the clause in it giving him parity with the top earner at the club. I'm not convinced by what Charlton and Ferguson have been saying, I've heard rumours from too many sources now that there is something going on behind the scenes with Rooney. I don't think anything will probably happen with it, I do think they are exploring it though.

I agree melton. We suddenly have Kagawa and RVP that can play in behind a main striker and I believe that could be more than just a coincidence. Will be interesting to see what happens, but I wouldnt be at all surprised to see Rooney leave.

Pretty sure it's in the region of 600k per day..

I don't think there are that many clubs that he can go to Statman, that's the issues. Sounds bizarre considering how good he is, but I don't see him having a particularly long career due to his shape. If he is living life a bit too extravagantly away from football as well, then he might be considered a risk considering how big his wages would be. I think he prefers to be the main focal point as well, he seemed happiest to me when he was playing up front as your main man, I'm not sure many clubs that could afford him would give him that.

Personally, I love him as a player, always have done. Cannot see any chance whatsoever in him moving across the city though!

Rooney actually prefers to play behind a main striker melton. I know that he scored plenty of goals as the main striker, but he prefers the no.10 role. It is something that he talked about in the 442 magazine not too long ago.

That said, I do agree that there are only a few clubs that are a realistic fit for him. I don't actually think that he will move abroad, so that leaves City and Chelsea. Maybe Spurs?

I think it's more the importance Statman, I always had a feeling he felt like second fiddle when Ronaldo was at his height and then loved being the focal point after he left.

I know it is an utterly impossible move and never going to happen, but I would love to see Rooney move back to Everton! Spurs is not a bad shout at all, particularly if Bale moves in the summer.

Spurs wouldn't pay enough for his transfer, or his wages. Really don't think there is anyone in the PL he'd go to, short of Everton to finish his career on lower money. Doubt he'd go to City or Chelsea either, and I don't think SAF would sell to either of them now. I don't think he'd suit Spain or Italy. I think the only realistic option would be PSG, unless the money is the only motivation, then he may go to Russia/China.

Ah I am with you. Yes, he seemed to step out of Ronaldo's shadow. That said, even when Ronaldo was scoring all of the goals for us, it was Rooney that most of our attacking play went through.

Yeah I agree. When he is on form, I still love watching him play.

I remember seeing that link not long ago, an English version. There are no quotes or sources in the article, and they may well have just pulled the numbers out of their backside.

They have Jay, just had a look at them.

What they don't tell you is that in the UK, players lost nearly half of their money in tax whereas, until recently when sports stars lost exemption, they paid very little tax in Spain.
