Premier League- 12 Teams, but add Play-Offs.
First Division- 12 Teams, 2 Relegated, and potentially two promoted.
Northern League- 10 teams, 1 promoted- 1 relegation play-off.
Southern League- 10 teams, 1 promoted- 1 relegation play-off.
The very bottom of the league is not the problem, therefore adding another two clubs to the SFL will not change anything at all meaning it makes the numbers work.
The bottom tier Play-Offs will be contested by a non-league Highland winner, and a non-league amateur winner along with the two bottom teams in the Northern League and the Southern League.

I do not want to see teams play each other 3 or 4 times a season in the league (remember the saying familiarity breeds contemp)) so having 10 or 12 team lagues is not the answer.
16 team leagues have to be the answer, colt teams into the league as per Spain (I could think of worse examples to follow) and major changes to the cup competitions (Set the FA cup up like the Champions league with seedings etc and that will compensate for the lost League games) and if teh League cup is not going to offer an incentive of a Europa cup place then scrap it.
Why are we toying with an idea that was abandoned by othere leagues (after a 10 year 'Trial' )
Because Scotland is not like other leagues; it is unique that it has two clubs so big for a nation so small. The answers to the game's problems cannot be found abroad, they have to come from within. Either the system in place now is tweaked or they implement something radical- which is something I wouldn't recommend in the current economic circumstances.

Look at the league tables around Europe. Most are like us and have 1, 2 or 3 large teams and then the rest are followers. We could possibly pick up some good ideas but we need to listen to common sense when it is spoken.
We should also take heed when an idea that is tried fails before we try to adopt it.
Certainly the present model which we were assured would make football more competetive and interesting did not do so and is not worth watching most of the time.
The first step I would take is to remove the word PREMIER from the league name. It is not premier. In fact it is third rate and the people who are charged with improving the game and who pick up the large salaries for doing so do not appear to be in tune with 90% of the Scottish Footballing support.
We are in a mess and we all (I include the owners and administrators) appear to be standing around the toilet watching as it disappears down the pan
