It tells you that we have brilliant options at central defence. Anyway, this article is about the course of their careers, not right now.
Rio.
Honorable mentions to Ricardo Carvalho during his Chelsea years.
Our young defenders are pretty good considering They've had to compete with Rio and Vidic. Evans has come on leaps and bound when a few years ago United fans were slating him and wanthing him to be sold (like a few are doing with some other players of ours).
I think Campbell at his best was as good as Rio. I did think England would have a CB pairing for Rio and King when Campbell retired or became cack due to age. King's injury ruined his career. Rio has been top for the past 10 years though and if it wasn't for the racism scandel Terry was involved in Rio would have gone to the Euros.
Sadly they are still England's best two CBs. Baines is challanging Cole for the LB position and we don're really have a class RB. Cahil is decent but not spectacular and Smalling and Jones are too young and hardly played with each other at CB.
Shawcross, Phil Jeilka (sp?) and Lescott don't really fill you with confidence. Which puts a lot of pressure on Jones and Smalling to be that much as they are pretty much going to be compared to Rio and Terry for England.
I forgot to mention Vidic in the last post as I mainly talked about the players that played for England.
I would go Campbell = Rio, then Vidic, then Terry (not much in it between Terry and Vidic though) and then others like Carvalho.

Paul Mcgrath hasn't played in the last 10 years.

Don't remember seeing anything about 10 yrs in the OP. No point in pulling me after this thread's been edited!

Bwahah I said 10 years in the original post. Nothing was edited. Otherwise the list of centre backs would be endless and Mcgrath still wouldn't make top 5.

Well, that statement right there either sums up your age or your footballing knowledge. As to which one - that's the puzzling part!
If i was a betting man, (which I am) i'd go for footballing knowledge!
Ye in all fairness, I don't know much about him. Not old enough to have watched him play. Knew he was held in high regard but didn't know that high.
From SAF himself!
Quote; "He was an exceptionally skilful and stylish defender, with marvellous innate athleticism, a man whose abilities stood comparison with any central defender in the game."!
That high!
