Well, that can't have helped; but I would think that everyone who did actually play that night was feeling a bit worse about themselves after that game!

It's a good claim, since then he's just been so crap

Valencia is just one-dimensional and has been found out. He's useless. Wouldn't mind seeing him gone in the summer.

It's just a shirt number when all is said and done. These things probably mean more to the fans than the players.

Valencia has gone from United player of the year 2011/12 to an absolute donkey this year. Very strange indeed.

I know some people get angry when a player is criticised but no one can defend Valencia he has been one of the worst players for us that I can ever remember this season.

If he plays today I will be irritated as we need to go at Reading from the off and get this game won.

Young is much better

how he was player of the year i will never know because rooney deserved that award last season

Rooney was player of year last year in my opinion also

34 goals and he was immense majority of season

I doubt it. But if that's all it takes for him to go near on 12 months of bad form, perhaps he isnt really cut for United.

I dont think it has anything to do with the number 7 shirt either. People have just learnt how to deal with him. Bale experienced something similar not so long ago (not that his form was as bad as Valencia's, just that he'd sort of been figured out) and he adapted.

Whether Valencia has it in his locker to do the same remains to be seen, but so far everthing would suggest he dosent.

Players themselves voted for Tony V at the United awards.

Rooney could and should have won it but Valencia was excellent last season. No denying it. Only Silva got more PL assists than him.

Valencia had one way of playing, knock ball down line and use pace and power to get there. They he had good cut back and crossing.

His crossing is the worst I've ever seen and he cuts back to no one at moment.

He seems to have lost pace, confidence and basically everything that made him effective.

And yet he still seems to be nailed on starter when fit.

Baffling to me

Valencia's demise at the moment makes Torres look like he's going through a bad patch. Torres hasn't lost the ability to actually play football, just lost the ability to finish of his chances.

Valencia on the other hand, is a deer in headlights pretty much throughout every minute of the season this year. He's probably put in about 4-5 'good' crosses this season, 2 of which I remember were of his left foot.

There really is no excuse for his performances, but the justification to keep playing him, when dropped players for having 1 bad game his outrageous.

Of course, I'm going to keep faith in him, write the season of completely for him and accept he had a bad year. He needs to fix up big time, because you don't get Pep Guardiola calling you the best winger in the world one day, and a year later you're barely can call yourself a footballer.

I think Valencia's crossing has been pretty decent up to this season of course. Much more consistent than Nani's.

But he has been an absolute shower this season. No denying it.

Kagawa for example

Has he played two games in a row more than twice this season ???

Sorry if I wasn't clear, I know he did had good crossing I was talking about this season only.

It's almost as though Valencia has been kidnapped and replaced by someone who has never kicked a ball before (but looks the same)

Nani was superb for most of 2010-2011, Valencia was terrific last year and Young had a good debut season, I think.

Imagine if just one of those three had played to their potential consistently this year.

Exactly, we have played the whole season with all of our wingers off form

Apart from when 39 year old Giggs has played on wing

The day I accept that there is a possibility of 2 Valencia's is when 1 of them wears an appropriate size shirt. Valencia, always wears a shirt size to small

I think Valencia having a storming season last year etc was more an exception to the rule. See James Beattie up there in the PL goal charts with Henry and van Nistelrooy in the 02-03 season as exhibit A...

I can't think - genuinely - a such a terrible and consistent run of form from a United winger ever... Has he even scored - or come close to, for that matter - this season?

Don't think he has scored at all this season, but that's not really the surprise for me. I think he's had like 1 shot on goal, which I think he smashed in the side netting from about 10 yards out at an angle.

He just needs a summer off to reconsider what's gone wrong.
Some players just have bad seasons. He may never get back to his best but he absolutely deserves another season to find his form.

I think we need more than a player that can only do one thing.

He has been found out, he isn't getting younger it's time to sell.

We can probably get 4 or 5 million quid hopefully and I think that's good business.

Zaha surely will offer a lot more, he certainly cannot be worse

His ability to hit the target when he has a shot at goal is quite shocking as well, worse than Welbeck's. He usually scuffs his shots, Valencia on the other hand, his shots end up as a throw in, miles off target.

Whilst I agree Valencia has seriously regressed I think he did deserve POTY. yes rooney did score 34 goals but it in fact covered up a lot of what was happening with rooney which has manifested itself now, certainly with some fans.

Rooneys goal scoring this season isn't bad at all, yet his inadequacies are btter known.

Valencia is very predictable and that is his problem, with just rooney up front running in from midfield (our set up last couple of years sort of) Valencia would again excel

Play the football we have been playing and Valencia is what you se now, he could never pick a player out (which is what RVP needs) he just crosses with players running in the chances of him getting an assist is better

RVP purchase has affected Valencia, as it simply is different playing styles
