better than mancini but not quite good enough to take the title
He would have done considerably worse after he sold all there star players.
I think better, but just short. United are on course for a record season. Didn't realise they'd won 24 from 29. That's mental.
I dunno, tactics aren't his strong point. Can't have done any worse the Mancini, I suppose, but I don't think City's squad is actually that great.
Wenger also never managed to retain a title, and so would he do any better at city?
He would win the title easily
Would have fallen just short, United are remarkably consistent this season. Definitely would finish 2nd though. Still doubt if City would have won anything with Wenger in charge.
Not wuming here, but, he would have won the title. And that Tevez saga would never have happened.
if Wenger was Chelsea manager would have won about 3 trebles by now
you on the wum 8bit? Wenger was a great manager 10 years ago and is still a good manager now
Would of ran it closer but United are unstoppable this season.
Pretty impressive stat here:
@OptaJoe: 25 - If Man Utd win vs Sunderland they'll be the first team in English top-flight history to win 25 of their opening 30 games. Benchmark.
Come on Sunderland then..
Given Wenger's tactical mediocrity, I would not have my hopes held high when trophies are talked about.
Wenger at City would have won the CL League and would have won the title already.
Wenger was City and Chelsea's no.1 choice when they got taken over.
And Real Madrid was after Wenger before they got Mourinho.
Wenger is better than Mancini at developing players Mancini is better tactically.
Wenger with City's squad would have won the title or run United very very close. Mancini is clueless.
I think Wenger would have enjoyed working with a better calibre of players, and would very much have found it easy to adapt City's players to an Arsenal 98-04 style of play given the physicality and counter-attacking capabilities of some of their players.
However, the Premier League has improved since those days and being adaptable has become more important since teams in general have become more effective at countering specific gameplans. Furthermore, Mourinho's influence has lead to a rise in 3-man midfields, which has helped negate the advantage that teams like United and Arsenal had in the early days of the century with their playmaking forwards. I think perhaps that's been one of the reasons that Wenger has struggled so much post-05 (as well as a decrease in quality of players), he simply hasn't adapted to the rigours of modern day PL management and perhaps is guilty of under-preparation. There's no reason to think that would change if he were managing City.
