My dads a big stoke fan. Season ticket holder last 10 years or so.
He now wants him gone. Hence no renewal this time.

I'm sorry but your father is not a big stoke fan if he's not supporting the team because they've had a bad season. stoke are'nt doing anything they hav'nt done before, they've just been found out!

I would prefer Nigel Clough any day of the week. There's no need to change. Let him finish the job he was hired to do. ie Build from scratch. He's making a good job of it so far.

Rameses, There's no way Route 1 Hoofball is ever effective except when we have just broken up a fully manned attack and we have players in their half.

Get a life? I think you need to get a sense of perspective.

I didn't get to see your response, Bob, as that's also been moderated, but 'get a sense of perspective'? quite clearly 'preferring' Fred West to Clough is a joke: it might very well be in poor taste, but 'get some perspective'?!

I think you should definitely have yourself a rethink and, if it was you who reported the original comment, then you should hang your head in shame.

People tend to exaggerate the number of long balls Stoke play and under estimate the number of long balls played by teams like Man Utd. If you have the right players who can play an accurate long pass and the players with the control to receive them then this cuts out a lot of needless effort. It is not a case of long ball or short passing game it is how best to get the ball to your players so they can have an attempt at goal. If the opposition close you down really quickly in midfield like Arsenal do then it is better try and play over the top of midfield. The game is about who scores the most not how many passes you make. If you can score more with playing longer passes then it is a legitimate tactic. In the final analysis it is not about tactics but about having the players.

Hang my head in shame? No, I don't think so & I find it strange that you deflect things back upon me. Joke it may have been, but it was in poor taste, as you admit, and maybe Backo summed things up esp in the light of other matters this week.

Mock Clough by all means, but think of more appropriate comparisons.

What 'events this week'?

You can't seriously be comparing the Wests to the Philpotts, can you?

Look, stop trying to make out that you're the injured party. You said something ill-placed, it was removed, we move on.

Not try to make anything out other than there's some sad people on this site, real mardarses.. The Wests were nothing like the Philpotts and anyone who suggests otherwise is either deliberately feigning ignorance or incredibly stupid.

Do stop trying to get personal. If someone doesn't laugh at one of your jokes, it doesn't make them sad.

But if you wish to explain the difference between the Wests & Philpotts to me, then do so.

Seriel killer who raped and tortured.
Manslaughter by tragic error of judgement.

The only similarity is people died. I don't often take sides, but comparing the two is rather silly!

Strett,
Yes, I know that. But it doesn't justify the original comparson of a football manager to a serial killer, does it? Joke or not, compare Clough to somebody incompetent like a banker, politician, someone who makes a cack-handed decision. Not to a murderer.
