Now that is what a new manager should do

I've no idea what relevance Di Canio's Sunderland goal celebrations have to do with Wolves, or if it was just your way to have a little pop at us.

Di Canio has won one and lost one. I don't see what he's proved.

Maybe Albion should have gone for him?
Instead of a manager who has lost as many games as he has won.

You're right stairs, the truth is that most on here would have turned their noses up at Di Canio, as they did with Bruce, Davies and Alladyce.

Look where they all are now.

Morgan isn't the only one who can make disastrous managerial decisions

posted on 14/4/13

Stairs seems to have been won over by one Di Canio win. A premeditated slide on the knees on the touchline for the cameras and suddenly stairs thinks he's the Special one!

You seem as fickle as the owners who make the rash decisions you speak of.

Where does it say he's been 'won over by him'. All he is saying is that the new manager has come in and made a noticeable effect unlike the manager you appointed.

You are too sensitive Pundit.

Lol, Pundit, you are so sensitive.

PDC has injected immediate passion in a squad that a few weeks ago looked defeated. It is very relevant to Wolves as, I would bet that, when Wolves were looking for their latest manager, PDC must have been available.

Not saying he would have been an obvious choice. In fact, I would have laughed at it, as I did when he joined Sunderland. But I am sure most Wolves fans would like someone like that motivating the squad and getting them playing.

Appointing the right manager is where the owners and directors deliver value to the club? Along with a bit of dish

I'd add that if PDC does nothing more and got sacked in the summer. He's already done his job 4 points. Clear of trouble. Almost certain safety.

Easiest bonus any manager could get since Peter Reid.

sunderland were playing their biggest rivals - i'd argue that the manager didn't need to inject any passion for this game. di canio will prove his worth when he is getting sunderland to beat stoke away from home on a cold Tuesday night, or when he is masterminding a snatch and grab job at home v man utd or Chelsea to pick up unexpected points.

martin o'neill had an immediate impact at sunderland if I remember and dragged them away from relegation to the middle of the table. where is he now again?

Sensitive because I don't agree with you?

The Matador is a realist. From where I sit Di Canio has only played two games - one won, one lost.

Sunderland sit three points clear of 18th placed Wigan...but they have two games in hand. I wouldn't personally use the phrase 'clear of trouble'. They could be in the relegation zone after next Sunday after playing Everton.

Many fans forget that currently in both of leagues the whole landscape of league standings can change after one weekend.

To win 13 games and draw 5 against 14 losses in the Premier League in his first season as a manager is ok.
Of course, having decent players and a board that knows what it's doing helps.

MON had an amazing start with Sunderland. Energy, drive, passion, charisma - and many points.

Said at the time that he wouldn't last. Saying the same about his successor.

Player power/apathy will eventually swamp Di Canio. I give him less than a year

The Albion board that have seen 7 managers lead the team out in 7 years?

The Albion board that sacked a manager questionably who then went on to win the champions league?

The Albion board who won't invest in the redevelopment of any stadia or training facility?

It's not that the Albion board don't know what they're doing...it's more a case of the Albion board not knowing what to do.

Clarke, Hodgson, Di Matteo, Mowbray, Robson and Megson. That's 6. Get your hand out and count them.

We didn't 'questionably' sack anyone. We replaced Di Matteo with Hodgson and we finished 11th. What exactly are you questioning?

Albion since 2006
Clarke 2012
Hodgson feb 2011
Appleton feb 2011 (caretaker)
Di Matteo 2009
Mowbray oct 2006
Shakespeare oct 2006 (caretaker)
Pearson sept 2006

Wolves since 2006
Saunders 2013
Solbakken 2012
Connor feb 2012
McCarthy 2006

Teix
Count those. Still more when you take out your caretaker managers.

And you think your board knows about football managers?!

posted on 14/4/13

Don't make me go back to 2004 because we'll have the same amount and I'll be adding Robson and Burrows to yours!

You stripy lot have short memories.

Given every one of our past 6 managerial appointments have all been successful, to varying degrees, yes, I'd say our board does know about football managers.

posted on 14/4/13

I'd say that apart from Hodgson, all your fans wanted rid of all of them before they were sacked by your board.

If they were successful ultimately, you'd have every single one of them still there like we had McCarthy for five years.

The truth is, your board have tried and tested managers to a far greater extent than we have. It's just our lows have been lower.

posted on 14/4/13

Just because we sacked them it doesn't mean they are not successful. Each manager, with the possible exception of Robson left a better team behind than they inherited. The other two that were sacked took us as far as they could go. Mowbray and Hodgson were poached - suggesting they were successful managers.

I agree our board has tried and tested to a greater extent. We are just better at picking managers and if /when the time comes- getting rid of them.

Definitely.

Terry Connor? Appointed after due diligence? Cough.
Stale Solbakken. No presence. Got found out. Again.
Dean Saunders. Out of his depth already.

And as I said earlier, we also know when to sack them.

You sacked Talbot too late.

bloody hell, its only one win, lets keep our feet on the ground hey!!
Last week deano was a genius, five mins into yesterday ward had proved all his doubters wrong and micks signings were the saviours of the season over the last month.
fickle i guess.

So on this article so far...

One Albion fan following the bright star in the sky heralding the birth of King Di Canio after winning one and losing one.

Two Albion fans claiming they are great at sacking managers and using it as a boast.

And ironically they are asking me what I'm questioning!

This is why I like to toy with Albion fans.

I wouldn't have laughed at Di Canio's appointment if he went to Wolves tbh.
seemed to me he did a good job at Swindon albeit a few controversial moments.

Time will tell how far he can go with Sunderland. I do rate him as a manager but opinions change. He keeps going on about this training regime and maybe that was helped today. I think Capello was big on training and discipline, he started off brightly and look what happened to him.

posted on 14/4/13

Aaaaw! £1m!

Poor old Albion think that a £1m training pitch is redevelopment.

You should come down to Compton Park and look at our £50m project sometime. The future is bright, the future is old gold.
