Anti-Vettel bias in the media

probably because alonso is the superior driver of the 2

posted on 15/4/13

Your opinion, obviously, but one not exactly backed up by hard facts like results over the last three years.

posted on 15/4/13

alonso had probably the 4th or 5th best car on the grid last year and got to within 3 points of the world title, if you ony judge how good a driver is by how many titles they win, then i presume you think michael schumacher is the best driver ever?

posted on 15/4/13

Absolutely. His figures speak for themselves. 7 World Titles, 91 GP wins. It doesn't mean I like the guy, necessarily, but it's pointless to argue with the facts when they're staring you in the face, and are as overwhelming as they are in this instance. Nobody else comes close.

he might be the most succesful, but im talking driver talent, alonso and hamilton are far out in front of the current crop in terms of talent, put them all in the same car, alonso and hamilton would be the only one's in contention

posted on 15/4/13

Fine, that's your opinion, but I don't agree with it. Hamilton is talented but makes too many mistakes, and allows his private life to affect his performance on the track. It's closer between Seb and Alonso, but the fact remains Alonso blew last year's title and the one in 2010, both of which were there for the taking. He had a 50 point lead over Vettel at one stage last season and still couldn't convert. If he loses out again this year (with a better car, I agree), I think you can forget about him as a contender in the future. He's getting on in years and will have a Vettel complex firmly installed in his brain.

posted on 15/4/13

If that is the way you think then I imagine that Jenson was the best driver in formula one in 2009, and that Hill and Villeneuve were superior to Schumacher in 96-97.
The fact is that the car plays a huge role in determining who will be champ, Vettel has had the best car since half way through 2009. Last season for example Lewis and Fernando both had slower cars and Lewis should have won the title (lost through factors outside his control) and Fernando nearly did.

What I'm talking about is the inconsistency in comparing Vettel and Alonso in the media and among some fans. Alonso wins a race and people are drooling over his 'sublime drive': Vettel wins a race and he gets sniped at that he's 'lucky' because his car is designed by Newey. The World Champion will nearly always have the best car, yet nobody says that about Alonso's two championship years, they give him the credit. And don't forget how badly Red Bull began last year, they were way behind until the mid-season upgrade put them back in the hunt, but again, no credit goes to them for that, instead everyone whinges on about how 'unlucky' Fernando was, conveniently forgetting he blew a 50 point lead over Seb.

avb wonderland

to be fair the press and media and especially the people that actually know -- the autosport , the ex f1 drivers on sky and the bbc have always spoke of vettel in glowing terms the same as they have alonso -

top F1 chief engineer giorgio ascanelli who has worked with vettel and the very great senna has likened vettel to senna in how he goes about the buisness of being a f1 driver
-- and there is no higher praise than that from any credible source -

to be honest i would"nt take much notice of anything you read on an insignificant internet forum , take notice of the real experts as they are the people that really know --

spot on OP

Sadly there is much more serious bias in the media such as is reflected in the reporting on the war in Syria.

It is the lies told by the media and by western governments which have caused the destruction of that country. In comparison people calling vettell names for not letting his team mate beat him for once, is fairly small fry.

This article written by AVBWonderland (U11074) seems to me as being nothing more than an hysterical over reaction rant.

What exactly is this “media” that has anti Vettel bias? Perhaps the OP would like to quote some examples.

Adrian Newey has won more titles than anyone in the history of F1. Whilst not many people can name the designer of the car that Alonso won on Sunday.

F1 followers rely on Autosport magazine for reliable and unbiased views rather than turning to the back pages of the Sun or other so called media.

People that have a genuine interest in F1 do not rate Vettel.

On F1 forums some people pretend to big up Vettel as an excuse for their dislike of another driver. But that is all it is.

Still not found your missing eye then WTCBU ?

Vettel, Alonso and Hamilton are fantastic drivers, who could have been WDCs in any era.

Anyone who thinks different knows SFA about F1.

FACT.

Vettel needs to leave redbull and prove to everyone he is great - David Coulthard a redbull ambassador

We know that Vettel can win in a car that is the fastest on the grid, we don't know whether he can do the same with a car not as good.

It's a bit unfair to Vettel, I agree but that's the way the cookie crumbles I'm afraid

The Torro Rosso that was a redbull in disguise.

Red Bull are indeed heavily reliant on one man, but that man is not Vettel.

Vettel is German. This forum is British. It is perfectly reasonable for posters to hate him and I have no problem with that inspite of being a Vettel fan. The more people critisize him the better he gets. Crash kid, arrogant, finger et al. Does it remember anyone of a certain German who drove for Ferrari and was slated for his arrogance ?

posted on 17/4/13

Who hates Vettel? Most of the people are not convinced he is a race master supreme because of the significant car advantage he's had since 2009.

I would like to see what he can do in a car that is on par with others. Last year, he didn't do a lot when it was, so forgive people who have doubts about him.

To bring nationality into it is garbage, I was a Schumacher fan, didn't rate Mansell or Hill and I'm British.

Don't rate Button as well or Di Resta and they are both british.

Of the current grid, I'm a fan of 5 drivers and only one is British.

“Vettel is German. This forum is British.”
--------
In F1 a driver's nationality is irrelevant to a followers viewpoint.

Vettel is simply not rated as highly by some followers of F1 than others.

I am not entirely convinced of the sincerity of some of the members on this forum that do rate him as highly as they sometimes claim.
