I would personally take Shane Long over Nicky Maynard.

Me too. Had a great season last season scoring 23 goals in the league. I just think he'd handle the pressure of being the main man up front a bit better than Maynard.

He might settle in quicker with Mills already being here as well.

Maynard for me.

Last season's injury aside, Maynard has a longer and more consistent record at this level.

Long is undoubtedly talented and a Premiership side that could afford to nurture him whilst not relying on him to hit top form for a few seasons would be getting a real prospect. But we are not in that position yet and need immediate results.

Yes - 23 last season (including penalties I believe) but what about before that and before that ?

Either would be good but Maynard would be cheaper and I think better for us.

I'd like to see both - possibly long more so.

The thing that swings it for me is that 1 year left on a contract and a recent injury can not warrant a 5M price tag, so for current value, Id say long.

Id like to see how much we can offer bristol in January... Id reckon theyd have to take 2M

So maybe Long has found his form at exactly the right time then? He's 24 and he just hit 25 goals in the league and cup last season.

Put him up front alongside Nugent and in front of some very good creative midfielders and I think he'll bang them in left right and centre.

You'd have to be a right ''Prawn'' to prefer Maynard over Long! We need promotion now (I'm getting old and don't want to miss it ) Shane Long would come up with the goods immediately, we're not looking to build for the future at the moment, its instant promotion then our mega rich owners can look to the future. Bring in the best, lots of 'em, Tops can easily build a bigger dressing room to accomodate them!
Very excited about the upcoming season, just booked a flight to see the matches in Sept. our new owners won't let us down.

I'm not sure 7m is warranted for a player who has found form over one season in the second division of English football.

I think they would sell him for less anyway.

I'd prefer Maynard, despite an injury and 30 odd games less at this level than Long, he has scored almost as many goals, as a consequence has a better scoring ratio, and his goal scoring is much more consistent over consecutive seasons.

I also think Maynard is more likely to create chances for himself - evidenced through the fact he has scored on a regular basis for teams in mid table and battling relegation, which so far, Long has not.

Before last season Long scored 21 goals in 4 seasons, i'm sorry but that's crap!!

Akinbadbuy had a better goal ratio and in the Prem!!

No way is 44 goals in 5 seasons worth £7m, who's to say last season wasn't a fluke? Remember Heskey scored 22 goals one season for Liverpool but has never done it since!!

I have to say Maynard, I work with a guy whose son is at Reading, in his opinion Long had a one off season.
I would love to see Maynard at Leicester, but if we don't get him it's not the end of the world and Waghorn given a run may well produce the goods. If not then Sven could quickly remedy the situation and recruit someone from Real Madrid or Man City

I played against Maynard when I was younger and he is by far the best striker I had to handle. Long did well last year but not before that. I would take long but not for 7 million and i think maynard is a bargain at 5!!

Maynard all the way

We don't know the offer for Long will be as high as £7m, and we don't know that BC haven't already turned down £5m for Maynard. I've no problem with commenting on rumours, but when you start putting them head-to-head against each other, it starts to get a bit like 'who would win a fight between David Cameron and Graham Norton?'
