"If Welbeck was not English would he have been nominated?"
No.
"If Michu was English would he have been nominated?"
No, because if he were he'd have cost Swansea about £10m thus negating his principal quality... that of being a cheap purchase.
bit harsh. 4 foreigners nominated in the senior category, not so many obvious foreign candidates available in the junior section.
Wilshere and Welbeck are both poor nominations though.

This is England, why would not English players be nominated in their own country. If you want to nominate just foreign players, suggest you move abroad.
its more big club vs small clubs rather than country and foreigners
Ashley Williams anyone
I don't think it is really an issue, as the opinion on here suggests, for once it's almost unanimous. Don't forget this was voted for by their fellow players as well.

Rewarding mediocrity. Welbeck can barely control the ball some games. His 2 goals is a laughable stat and i dont think the "playing out wide" excuse will wash anymore as there are many players who have played out wide this season yet have more goals than Welbeck.Yeah he does run around a hell of a lot, shows a lot of heart but most of the time, its to retrieve the ball he lost himself. Doing a few backheels has somehow gained him a repuation of being technical amongst Utd fans. Its not an anti Utd thing because I rate Cleverley. Think he's a decent little player. Wont be world class but he's got something about him. Hits the ball cleanly and tidy in possession but Welbeck is a mess in my opinion.
Well said Mr Chelsea. Never understood the fuss. Pure hype.
Always cracks me up when I see people claim he's technical.
Funny thing is even he believes it too. He actually thinks he's skillful.
Just watch him play. Same with Sturridge. Someone's convinced these idiots they're the next Ronaldinho.
Come off it.
If Michu was English he would be touted as the next Zidane. If Welbeck wasnt English he would be working in KFC, honestly that was abit harsh Welbeck works hard for the team but doesnt have any quality his finishing speaks for itself 2 goals in 30 odd games in a season where Man U has stomped most of the opposition.
It's not even his finishing that's the issue. He just can't play football very well.
Only those that voted on the PFA appear to overhype Welbeck. I haven't spoken to one football fan who thinks Welbeck is worth his place in those nominations.
TBH Mr Chelsea I rate Welbeck higher than Cleverly, think Cleverly will be decent/good maybe good enough for England's midfield (due to his style of play and not many great options) but not what I can imagine wanting as a starter...
Welbeck I could quite happily see starting for United regularly in the future, he did have a much better goal return when actually playing in position (and more frequently) last season..
Part of some of the most best football we have played since Ronaldo left, which was the start of last season up until about the City game..
There is no way he really deserves this award though.
Really 7? Ive watched Cleverley many times and I like the way he uses the ball. Seen him out on the wing a few times and he strikes the ball with purpose. Not a lot of players do that enough thesedays. They cross just for the sake of it. Cleverley seems a little more switched on though. He wont become a great world class player but definitely a decent little player
Cleverly**
Also on Welbeck. I dont know what to make of him.. Next season will be important for him because not only having a poor goal record, he does have a poor shot record I think? Even for someone who plays outwide.. Its not as if he's playing in defence. You'd expect him to test the goalkeeper a lot more than he currently does.
Don't get me wrong he has been poor in many ways this season, if this season were the only one I had seen him in I probably wouldn't have too high hopes for him either...
His shooting wasn't exactly a strong point in his previous season either, it feels like to me to many times he wants a good looking finish. Something that curls in the far post rather than just making sure you hit the back of the net...
It was something I accused Suarez off when he first came to the premiership, he seemed to have it on his second season as well but this season he is pretty good in front of goal (though he does take a hell of a lot of shots)
I have faith that his finishing can improve I would say he showed a good level of ability in the rest of his game from his previous season and then his finishing wasn't too bad either.
Admittedly this season has been a failure for him but there were a fair few United fans (me among them) who were worried about signing RVP because it could affect the development of Welbeck.
There is always the chance we are complete idiots but for some us to be worried about signing one of the top players around because it will affect his development tells us at least he impressed some of us quite a bit with his first season...
The only real problem is next season going to be any different?
I suppose the only hope for Welbeck is an injury hit season for one of our strikers, a fair few injuries spread between the other 3 or that we go all the way in every competition.
Even then there isn't that much game time available to him, with Hernandez simply not being an option for the wing he is pretty much 4th choice to actually go up front.
