Sorry Santi reports are suggesting it is exactly the same as the Playstation, and if anything worse off with some bad "features" rumored. Also with lack of any new IPs for the near future the Xbox could take a hit this time round

Simon everything going around are weak rumours at best. I wouldn't take anything too seriously just yet. Do you really think all of a sudden Microsoft would go weak on a new system? If anything they see this as their best chance to really take a substantial chunk away from Sony and I believe they would have made sure they were well confident of the specs and features before giving the go ahead.

Sorry RtM but have to disagree with many things you say - spec wise the rumours going round will be appx 95% correct, this is due to this time of both Sony and M$ being unable to sell their systems at a loss. There may be some little surprise like Sony deciding to use GDDR5 memory but other than that it will be:

AMD quad core CPU with HT or just a straight 8 core cpu (my guess is on 8 core), now the surprise could be here with M$ choosing a straight 3ghz + cpu coupled with DDR3 memory

The GPU will be roughly like a 7850 with optimisation will last the system quite a while and be perfectly fine for the next 3-5 years (i dont expect this round of console wars to run 7 years, 5 at the most) maybe with 2gb of GDDR5 dedicated to the GPU

I think it will have 8gb of ddr3

Things i am not certain on:

If it will be an apu - for cost and heat again prob yes it will be, this will also allow for better processing of things like physics etc

Always on and Used game filter - if M$ do go ahead with either of these they will loose a lot of people, these are the points people are most interested in come the end of May.

I'm not very technical and probably get an Xbox rather than PS4 due to more of my mates having an Xbox, but what are the main differences between the two?

Fab this time round spec wise i would say nothing - it will be just down to the exclusives you want to play. Both will have Blueray and both will output at 1080p so no difference there, seems neither will be backwards compatible (100% sure for the PS4 as the hardware is totally different making it impossible), slight chance with the Xbox, but doubt it as they will be able to resell the games latter on and people will pay..................

So its just which you prefer:
Gears or God
Halo or Uncharted
GT or Forza

However at the moment for me Sony has the slight edge due to a couple new IPs they have coming out and becoming bored of Halo and Gears with no new IPs on the horizon.

Simon I understand what you're saying but how does any of that prove me wrong? The 360 was less powerful than ps3 but developers and programmers constantly put out better quality games AND said it was easier to work with than Sony.

What I was saying is I believe they are confident in their system. Not that their system can compete with the high end pc's.

To be honest I don't give a chit about that side of things. Sure, it's nice to have fancy graphics and more ability to do things but San Andreas is better than GTA IV and PES 6 is better than FIFA 13. They just need to make better games.

The games I really can't wait to play (if they ever come out) on next-gen are TimeSplitters 4 and The Last Guardian.

What i was pointing out RtM is the specification is more or less identical to the PS4, both systems will be using the same hardware. This is good from a devs point of view as it will reduce overall costs for both systems plus the added bonus of a PC version with very little work. However it will mean both systems are just as easy to work on as each other.

Now it seems that both systems are being released at the same time. So what we have now is the same hardware being released at the same time by different players - this will then lead to people making a choice of console on 3 factors:

1) Price - this also seems to be the same $500 being the sweet spot for the "best" version

2) Exclusives - this is totally down to preference

3) Features or lack of - M$ seem to be including some deal breakers for quite a few people, though this can be all cleared up in May and may be false

However with all of the above apart from fan boys anyone on the fence will pick Sony, again this could all change in May with more details of the $300 + sub version of the xbox

Also i did mention anything about Console Vs PC and it would be nice if this didnt revert to that type of flame war

Well they will both be just compared to gaming pcs and for the cash they will both cost you could get a nice gaming pc. If Microsoft are really going to ban 2nd hand games I won't be getting an xbox and will just switch to pc!

Serbian the PS3 was and still is far superior (powerwise) to the Xbox its just no one bothered to use it as such, Sony made it too different so the devs chose the easiness of the Xbox and PC - to be honest it was like have a 200mph supercar in the garage and only drive it to work at 70 because thats what the speed limit was
