I'm Scottish, so glad he is there, but Sean Maitland?!?!?

Sean Maitland,Matt Stevens,Mako Vunipola
few head scratchers indeed.
But that said, Gatland is a hell of a selector. So there is sure to method behind the madness somewhere
No shock he stuck to his Welsh boys.
Annoyed with his "I am not picking anyone from France" then picking Jenkins when he isn't even the best Lion at his club. Gray > Launchbury is a joke. Morgan must not be happy that Heaslip gets in after his 6N.
Both cant pass/wont pass Welsh centres too. /sigh
Pretty shocked at the selections what a poor squad
Really though Madigan might have a chance as the player who can cover 10. I see though he decided to go with no one in that role. Hogg maybe? Starnge squad overall though. Delighted for Conor Murray.
As an England fan i thought Robshaw had done more than enough this six nations to make the squad - certainly ahead of Croft for example
Chris Robshaw is rubbish he's not an International player, offers us nothing. Shocked Tom Wood, Ben Morgan aren't in the squad. Wood has been our best forward and Morgan's a better 8 than Faletau/Heaslip
Annoyed with his "I am not picking anyone from France" then picking Jenkins
It was more to do with players being able to travel as one, Jenkins has been released.
John1, it what way is that a poor squad? Some players have missed out, there will always be arguments, some are suprise inclusions, but in no way is that a poor squad and the first 22 will be very very strong.

I hadn't seen this article and did my own.
The premise of it being that this is the weakest Lions squad in recent memory.
I thought Maitland looked good in the 6n and I tipped him for a spot in the midweek side. I can see Vanipulo being a good pick too. It's the likes of cole, croft, lydiate and all the half backs except Phillips that concern me. Gutted for robshaw and can't help wondering whether gatland was concerned about the English lads having a leader of their own.
Most of the players in that squad haven't performed or played sufficient amount of games
Gatland did know he was announcing the lions squad, and not the invite list to his stag do didn't he ?
I think the following could be a good side :
Jones
Hartley
Vinipolu
Wyn Jones
OConnell
Warburton
Lydiate
Falatau
Phillips
Sexton
Cuthbert
Bowe
Davies
Tuilagi
Halfpenny
Would have liked to have seen morgan, robshaw and Wilkinson in there though.
actually, stick North in for Cuthbert
obv ive put bowe in the wrong place as well
why is that fat mess, walking penalty machine matt stevens in the squad?
mobility ?
he does get around the park tbf.
I was amazed to see that he's still only 30. what was his retirement from England all about ?
As a Scot it's easy to feel paranoid about this squad. Ireland play absolute garbage in the 6N and 9 of them end up on the plane.
Can the usual experts tell me the following
1. What did Conor Murray do that Greig Laidlaw didn't?
2. What did o'Brien or Heaslip (or Croft for that matter) do that Kelly Brown didn't?
3. Is Cole really a better scrummager than Euan Murray. BTW, there are no games on a Sunday?
I could go on, but just to finish, Richie Gray isn't worth his place on this season's performance.

Yes, I remember you getting quite abusive a few weeks ago when someone suggested that Brown might not be selected.
I do tend to agree with you on those 3 examples though.
Imho Cole is a better scrummager than Murray and he offers more round the park too.
Kelly Brown has topped the stats for tackles and turnovers in every tournament he plays in but for some reason just isn't fashionable, it's really unfair. Laidlaw is a fair shout too.
I saw Gats watching the Sarries v Toulon match and just got this weird hunch he was going to pick Stevens...he's ok at Loosehead but gets munched at Tighthead.
If Scotland vote for independence, will it be called the British and Irish and Scottish Lions ?
Sporty
Imho Cole has a touch of the Emperor's New Clothes about him. Take your point about round the park, but is that why you pick a front row? Yes, it PART of the modern game, but unless the set piece is spot on, what's the point?
And don't get me started on Stevens.

Been looking back at how you could accuse me of being "abusive".
Would that be on the thread that you took to deleting any comment that expressed views which were contrary to yours?
You know the one - the one where you had Castrogiovanni down as an Englishman
I think that was the thread. I only deleted the comments of yours which included abusive remarks, which I from memory was probably most of them. The jist of it as I recall though was that you tried to ridicule me for suggesting that brown wouldn't make the tour party.
JPB
I don't recall posting anything abusive - just you throwing a hissy fit for me daring to have a contrary view.
However, I bow to your superior knowledge of rugby - see below

It doesn't surprise me that you don't remember. Your posts came across as if youd been on a crack binge for a week.
A measure of how abusive the content was in the posts which I deleted, is that I did not delete a post which read,

Why do you continue to show yourself up for what you really are?
You 're more to be pitied than laughed at I suppose.
"
I must have thought that this contribution was so brilliant in comparison with your other yobbish nonsense, that it seemed worth keeping on the thread. I have to wonder now though why I didn't just delete that one as well.
Anyway, in spite of how hysterical and abusive you were in claiming how ridiculous it was to suggest that brown might not make selection for the tour, you were wrong anyway.
