They might be keeping quiet to try to avoid having to pay Real Madrid compo. If as is believed Madrid want shot of him then they'll pull the trigger anyway and they'll obviously be no release fee, but if they know Abramovich definitely wants him then they could hold out for a big fee, because they know he pays big release fees, for someone they wanted rid of anyway. Sort of win-win situation for them, sack someone but still get paid millions for it.
