He did nothing what so ever last season to suggest he is a first eleven United player.
I really can not pick out one memorable performance.
Vidicschin (U3584)
yeh exactly i cant remember one stand out game, im glad im not the only one
i know he's still young and i do hope he improves but atm he's not first team material
Not everyone at the club can be a superstar. Cleverley is a great squad player to have. Good, talented, hard working, doesn't complain and versatile.
i know he's still young
...............
He isn't really. He is 24 in the summer.
Just playing games will improve him, he's clearly got talent and the more he plays the more he will improve. Look at Henderson for us, Kenny played him out of position but he gave him games and he's defo improved as a player for us this season because of the benefit of just playing first team games.
I would choose Anderson over him any day.
Nani's Balls - ABUs can suck my banana (U1042)
why cant everyone be a superstar? he is hard working and all that, but is he good enough to compete against the likes of xavi, schweinsteiger, wilshere etc our midfield gets dominated nearly game
He is like Nicky Butt, a very good squad player.
our midfield gets dominated nearly game
...........................
I am actually getting quite tired of having to explain this to some of you on here.
One more time.
Our midfield gets dominated when we come up against a 4-5-1 team. This is because we set up with only 4 in the midfield.
Do the maths.
Generally when we come up against another 4-4-2 team our midfield holds it's own, or does the dominating.
He has played excellently against big teams we have played against ,most recently madrid at OT
He did have a few games where he was probably the best player on the pitch. The West Ham game springs to mind.
So far he has been steady away. But he has started less than 40 games for us. Far too early to judge I think. He may end up as a squad player, but I'll reserve judgement for now.

He was decent against Madrid in a more 'backs to the wall' style of midfield performance.
He doesn't dictate a game, have a wonderful weight of pass, range of passing or killer ball, nor is he a powerhouse or scorer of goals.
What he is is a good, tidy all rounder with a decent engine. I think the Nicky Butt comparison is a fair one in terms of his actually squad status - a good squad player who can come in a do an excellent job but not quite in the category of player needed for the position at this club.
cleverley is a good squad player. If I had to choose between Ando and cleverley, it's really no contest, Anderson is superior to him in every way
Good, solid player with energetic and technical qualities that would be served best within a proper 433. He keeps thing ticking over very well and it's no surprise that our best midfield performances of the season came when he was playing week in, week out and in some good form.
However, we need better. We need a truly elite level midfielder to partner Carrick. Cleverley is a good as squad player you'd wish to have, though. And like I said, would be great in a proper 433.
I think both Bayern and Dortmund (as well as Real) have shown 2 in the middle can work well as long as they are the right players.
Cleverly is a very good player who has only just finished his first full season with us. Whether he will ever become one of the top CMs is questionable but he is a great addition to the squad.
I'm just waiting for Robb to come out and say Jones is better than the two.

That really is pretty obvious
what kags said
i think rs solid not amazing, good enough for the bench, and as a squad player. But not starting 11
one other observation i have made is with cleverly in the team we play amazingly in the first half and usually take the lead but when the other team come onto us in the hope of equalizing he usually disappears, though this can be said for all of our midfielders

Carrick disappears?
"I think both Bayern and Dortmund (as well as Real) have shown 2 in the middle can work well as long as they are the right players."
Not just them, the whole back line becomes massively important as they have less protection, particularly the fullbacks.
Cleverley is average at best. Not had a single game this season where I would say he was fantastic.
He is 24 so he isnt young.
A classic case of a player over rated by our fans.
Ok squad option when you play in the Carling Cup, nothing more, nothing less, cant see him getting any better.
both Anderson and Cleverley are decent squad players.
That's about all i can say about either of them really.
I don't think either of these two would get games at Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, City or Spurs, and Everton at the moment.
Utd should really have much better midfielders than these two, no offence to either. But we've had some great CM's over the years, at the moment it's a very weak area of our squad. (obviously)

This season was his first fully fit season since he was 14 years old. Although I will never say he'll end up a worldbeater, to suggest there's no more improvement in him is wwll wide of the mark in my opinion.
Yes, nearly 24 is hardly young but as far as his football development has gone, he's nigh on still a virgin
Next season will tell us more although to be fair, he did appear to fall out of favour in the last 3 months of the season aside from Cup game starts
I think an England International is going to want more than league cup starts
