So Otsembor is now above Reda Johnson in the pecking order? Oh dear. He was starting the friendlies ahead of Beevers too. Reynolds I give you but still think he's a decent player. Without these 3 the squad would be even weaker.

In any event - Obika on loan for 3 months is gonna add next to nothing to the wage bill. Notice you didn't pick up on that point/

Is Obika a family member or something?

Why would we want him on loan?

We would have to pay his wages?

And Otsemor is a RB not a CB. No competition whatsoever for Johnson.

Stop making yourself look foolish

I know where they play - just find it amusing you mention Otsemobor's name above Reda in some weak attempt to suggest he's more of a part of the squad and prove your point. How many games has Otsem started pre-season?

Anyway - who cares..

"shouldnt we also look for players like those that are hungary and willing to give their all,"

You mean like Prutton, Semedo, Bennett, Batth and Jones??
-------------------
Ya see Consy, your not paying attention, im not talking about those players, yes they are those kind of players but Im talking about YOUNG players that have the hunger to suceed, enthusiasm and willingness to give their all and that will help us and them too!!

Sorry to interrupt the teabagging, sorry handbanging, going back to an earlier post does anyone know who the 3 bids on the table are for? Assuming Alf but who else

Nothing to argue with on that one. Could be Afobe, could be Mellor, could be anyone. Definitely not Obika though........

Otsemebor has been injured, he only started training with the team again on Tuesday.

As for the 3 players, I don't know but I would hazard a guess at ALF, Roberts & Mellor.

I would GUESS at Roberts, Alf and Afobe

Cheers guys. Back on topic I think any of those players would be great signings but have to admit the lack of movement on the transfer front has turned me slightly from being conservative about their abilities to feverishly clamouring for somebody to be excited about. Have slight reservations about Roberts, but only because i'd like to see more pace injected into the team and from what I know about him that isn't his style. That said playing 2/3 years in a team that has continually challenged for promotion makes him a more consistent performer at our level than many of our squad. Either way with time ticking down my view on potential signings has definitely become a little sqeu-wiff

Certainly agree with your comment about pace but Roberts does have a pretty good scoring record for a winger so what he lacks in pace he must make up for in other departments.

If we can get Afobe then whilst he'll be raw, he'll certainly have the pace & hunger/desire to trouble teams even if he doesn't bang them in left, right & centre.

This makes good reading about him:

"On 2 November 2010, he agreed terms to join West Yorkshire club Huddersfield Town on loan until December 2010.[11] He made his debut as a substitute the same night in the 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough Stadium.[12] After the game, Huddersfield manager Lee Clark praised Afobe, calling him "another fantastic young player from the Arsenal production line."[13] Afobe scored his first goals in professional football as Huddersfield beat Rotherham United 5–2 away from home in the Football League Trophy. Afobe made it 3–1 with a clinical header inside the box, before finishing off the scoring with a well taken finish in the second half.[14] Following a broken leg to Anthony Pilkington, Benik got an extended run in the Huddersfield starting line-up in the second half of the season which saw him pick-up four Man of the Match awards in a row, which also included 5 goals and a number of important assists, taking Huddersfield's unbeaten record from December to 24 league games. Despite Benik's and Huddersfield's great form, they narrowly missed out on automatic promotion and lost in the final of the play-offs. In total Benik made 32 appearances with 8 goals and 10 assists for the Terriers."

I think the team is a big improvement on last seasons starting 11. Big, strong, bullish, aggressive, shouters will count for a lot this season in this league. I do worry about where the goals will come from but there is time to get a striker or 2 before the window closes. I think we need to be clever with transfers not sign the 1st available player who might have potential one day, or who used to have potential (i.e. Alan Irvines transfer policy). Prudency in the transfer market is the way forward for SWFC, even if it frustrates fans, so what!

Agree, Brigg.

Although, in defence of Irvine, he had to get what he could whilst he could from the free transfer bucket. Megson has got more scope in terms of fees etc. That's also a reason why it's taking a bit longer because now the players we're after are actually wanted by not only their current clubs but others aswell.

Yeah noticed the Goal/Ratio for Roberts, certainly cant be faulted considering he plays a wing position. Slightly surprised that Benik created as many goals as he did considering his record prior to (all be it loans and youth) joining Udders. That said this is all speculation about players who dont even play for us lol, we NEED a winger and 2 forwards IMO

Two strikers and a winger? Really?

Just to help you lot out...

Afobe is immense, but not exactly a goalscorer, he links play up brilliantly, runs the channels well and is a dream strike partner for anyone who can hit the back of the net because he'll do all the hard work and put it on a plate for them. Always puts in a shift, can win the ball in the air, is strong as an ox when in possession and has a fair few tricks to beat players as well. I still think it's unlikely you'll sign him however, but we'll see...

As for Roberts, he's going to struggle for game time this season as we have 2 better wingers in Ward and McDermott, but his record speaks for itself. He is very creative, can deliver great crosses and chips in with a fair few goals as well. He broke his arm midway through last season and never looked the same player. He has no pace whatsoever, doesn't track back and if things aren't going your way he offers very little. I personally don't think he'll go, but if he wants regular first team football he'd have a better chance getting it with you lot.
