I can see fans in their thousands rushing to get season tickets now.

Remember watching Noel Hunt up here for DUFC. He's a wee pest of a player and not a bad sort by all accounts but in my own opinion he's Dundee United level and not Leeds United

30 yr old, more oldies on a free FFS , I am getting worried now........don't need squad players we have shed loads of um we need signings to improve us, we need to be bringing players who will start games & get us up.

Will be good for the bench. Very good squad player. Deceptively good in the air. Cannot see why anyone wouldn't think he wouldn't improve the squad. Agree with the assessment above - Not an exciting signing.

Firstly - 30 isn't old!

Secondly - let's just let the manager do his job. If he wants Hunt then its his decision.

Main issue this summer is keeping players and adding to the squad. We have got rid of the dead wood and need some better squad players than we had.

This is what I was dreading

Likeable player who actually produces very little

I really hope were not going down the road of jobs for mates again

If BM signs him he will play. Managers don't bring 30 year old ex players in to make up the numbers. Don't be surprised that if he stays fit he plays every game.

Hunt is not someone I would have been looking at. But it's inevitable that we are going to get at least one reading player.

I just hope that BM brings in quality not quantity.

Frank

Completely agree

He ain't signing him to be on the bench

Maybe McDermott has a McCormack/Hunt partnership up front in mind? Have the two played together in the Scotland set up at any point? Comes as no surprise that Hunt is on the radar, and it's a decent start regarding transfers. But hopefully not the marquee signing!

Also, I was kind of hoping that Carlton Cole would be a target...

We'll be linked with every player at Reading.

I agree with Frank, quality not quantity. But I reckon Mr McDermott probably knows a decent player and the qualities that player brings to a squad more than most of our recent managers.

As Stoopo says, if he wants him that's good enough for me.

Support the manager, don't criticise every move he makes.

Hunt and McCormack upfront

Hunt at 30 year old has scored 70 goals

And where going down the route of if the managers thinks he's good enough, that good enough for me again

Don't you have your own opinion.

And we're you lot saying the same thing every year about Grayson, warnock etc

And what happens, were left with garbage

another freebie

Liw - I was merely wondering whether Hunt and McCormack have had some kind of attacking partnership before which might be in McDermott's thinking. I would still prefer Carlton Cole! I would be more disappointed if Hunt was signed a day before the season started. I don't think Hunt is that bad a signing to start off with. Decent player on a free. I'll stand by that opinion and will backtrack in the event that Hunt should prove to be a failure. But I think he's better than Morriosn - doesn't take much I know....

I'd rather have ebanks Blake over Carlton cole.

posted on 24/5/13

People keep saying he's free

He's not, will want at least two year deal on good money

Child

If we could get a fully fit, fully motivated cole, we would have a hell of a player

Would we get that player, am not sure

Really, really hope this rumour has nothing in it, if it's true, very worrying, because it's not a statement of intent in any way, shape or form and shows our manager who want's to build this club, is just going back to his old club to get those players 'he knows can do a job' sort of thing.

Change the players and managers names and you could post the same articles on this subject for the last 8 years.

Leeds fans, including me, need to be realistic about who we can afford and trust the managers judgement.

Would you rather Byram was sold and BM given the money to recruit, or keep Sam and work within our means.

I'm hoping that with Bates out of the equation our transfer budget will be set by something other than topping up a Monaco bank account.

8 years of Bates have knocked the expectation (not to say the stuffing) out of most of us, lets hope that the activity this summer demonstrates that GFH are taking us in the right direction.

Eddie.

I agree and it does seem like time repeats itself, but these out of contract ex players of our current manager, never work and have been released for a good reason more often than not.

What worries me the most, is poor ticket sales and kicking off the summer signings with a player like this.

posted on 24/5/13

It's about finding a balance and a mix of good solid experienced pros vs up and coming talented players.

Last season Warnock got it completely wrong. He spent most of his budget on the wages of experienced pros and the rest on talentless younger players.

Grayson had the talented up and coming players but wasted the rest of the budget on shyyte experienced pros.

An easy starting place is to bring players in who are hungry to play football and not just pick up a wage.

The first bad rumour we've had. We need better. The amount of times I say "woulda been good 4/5 seasons ago" is frightening....

Although if he drove LeFondre or Pogremyak I wouldn't moan

posted on 24/5/13

Well I'm hoping he has something about him, especially seeing as he started ahead of Le Fondre for most of the Championship campaign, and has managed a reasonable number of appearances in the Prem, although that probably says more about why Reading are down.

"Meanwhile, Brighton are among clubs showing interest in Reading striker Noel Hunt who is leaving after five years at the Madejski.
Hunt, 30, is out of contract and confirmed his departure on Twitter." (Mail Online).

So if he signs for them, do we say great McDermott obviously wants better, or do we take the other approach and say we can't even compete for the likes of Noel Hunt?

So funny on here. No matter who we're linked with and whatever the reputation (or not), the "experts" always know better !!! Can't recall the time we were linked with a player they agreed with.

Snodgrass was put down as we'd hardly heard of him at the time, Gradel was a Leicester reject. Uproar and outrage when we were linked with Diouf. I think we need to remember we're a CCC side, and whether we like it or not, we're owned by a group who may or may not afford to be able to fund super signings - only time will tell. I'm not convinced an Abramovich style backer has ever shown interest, so right now we've got who we've got.

Perhaps those who think they can do better should keep buying the Euromillions tickets, hope their numbers come up then buy the club. They'd obviously turn us into the Champions of Europe with 6 months.

If BM identifies a transfer target and thats who we sign, then i'll give him the credit to make those decisions. He is afterall the manager and will be judged on what the team he amasses achieves, or not.

I'm convinced no manager will ever pick the right players, unless they've had the backing of the "experts" first on here ............
