Plenty of big clubs were after him, I think if he'd waited until the summer he'd have got a move to a bigger club tbh.

And loads of good players have to take one step backwards to take two steps forward.

Personally I've never thought he was that great. Certainly not enough to justify the hype.

That said, Varane looks far better than Sakho ever did, but I have seen more of Varane at similar ages.

I'm often very wary of the hype around all these French players. They get hyped up just as bad as English players do.

Mbiwa was class against us in the champions league. Guess he's just getting used to PL life hence the slow start but yeah the lads got potential. Cabella was also quite good against us the last time we played them. Not sure where he ranks in the international set up but again he's anther with potential

I don't know about being the best EVER but he is a sensational talent.

If there is one little niggle, it is that he doesn't offer much offensively. But he is young, he can certainly improve.

He has got a good header and is comfortable on the ball. What more do you want in a CB?

Varane is only 19, and the maturity he shows is incredible. Not only is he a good defender, as a footballer too, just amazing.

He looks versatile, can probably play in midfield too, plus he's fast. Who knows he probably can play up front...

He reminds me of Ronaldo, in defence.

We are ok in defence and will be for the foreseeable future. Besides if the garçons Smalling and Jones establish a partnership, it will also be good for England internationally.
