British and Irish comedy creates better characters, I tend to find American comedy is just about cramming in gags that often have no relevance to the situation whatsoever. It doesn't mean it isn't funny, it just means the writing isn't great!

i find american comedies to be entertaining, rather than funny.

brit comedy is actually funny, so písses all over the yanks.

that said... family guy, early simpsons etc is genius.

The early Simpsons were brilliant, really well thought out plots and great characters. Its a shame they are now on season 200 and relying on celeb appearances

Britain tends to make better TV comedies because it requires clever writing to make everyday stuff funny.

America produces funny films because the whole film can be about one event which is either funny in itself or easy to make jokes about.

Americans are better at writing drama.

The Chappelle show and Curb your Enthusiasm are my two favourite American comedy shows both classic. However The Extras, The Office and Alan Partridge are just on a different level. BC>AC

American "humour" leaves me cold.

The rest of my family will be rolling around laughing at "gags" in Friends & suchlike that simply aren't funny.

I know I'm a grumpy old git, but shows like Have I Got News For you I find absolutely hilarious.

And of course you have the old/older classics like Fawlty Towers/'Allo 'Allo/Red Dwarf/Monty Python/The Fast Show/Bottom/The Young Ones/Comic Strip etc.

Now THAT'S what I call comedy.

British comedy all day long. No one can beat the writing of Only Fools.

I do like Big Bang Theory though but it just does not come close. I find the studio laughter in American sit coms too much.

Me and the Mrs watched a new comedy last night on NBC called Save Me. Neither of us laughed once.

US Comedies are utterly crap. Any nation that thinks Adam Sandler, David Spade and David Arquette are funny, doesn't get humour.

Add Ben Stiller and Steve Carell to that list.

Not keen on Carell myself, but Ben Stiller is ok in small doses.

Vidic, I too find Adam Sandler the single worst actor of all time, or at least the unfunniest

What about House M.D, Hugh is hilarious in that, but he's British, and in an American drama..

I like watching 'How I met your Mother'. It's well funny, especially Barney.

Why does one have to be good and one bad, both have their merits

I think Bobcat Goldthwait gives him a good run for money.

South Park is the greatest of US comedy though, and IMO it's right up there with the best of British.

The problem for the US is there is only one South Park, and there are many funny British comedy shows as funny as it, so yeah, the British are generally just better at doing comedies, there's just more of it .But the US certainly can too, South Park has left me in tears

American comedies sheet on British comedies. It's not even close

The thing with Adam Sandler is that he basically does the same thing a hundred times.

And don't even get me started on Jim Carrey. I would rather have someone attack my piles with a sledge hammer than sit through a movie with that buffoon in it.

A very poor mans Jerry Lewis, and he was irritating as well.
