Malmo may not of been the 2 best European side at the time but I'll just remind you. Wigan won the FACup this year. Oh if they had come 2nd they wouldn't of been the 2nd best team in England.

You Phoooking jealous mate that the manager Sam "I love my cigar more" Longsdon papped it up for you by letting Mr Clough go.

We won it back to back against some of the best in Europe. We beat the then Champions, Liverpool, (I was there ) we beat Cologne (top German side at the time)..... In fact we beat a lot of countries top sides, the ones that won their league!

It's like you saying the Derby team of the 70's wouldn't win ought today. You are right they wouldn't.

You could only beat what was put before you.

Jealous Derby fans

Think you're missing my point Webbo. There is glory in winning a Cup, like you say with Wigan, it just doesn't mean that Wigan were the best team in England last season..

Not really. We were the best in Europe 2 years running.

It wasn't just 2 European cups. It was a super cup, charity shield, I league championship, 2 league cups and nearly a 3rd, 2nd in the league the year after we won it, 42 league games unbeaten & semis of the FAcup with a squad of 15 players. They were simply the best at the time.

If cups are so easy, how come Derby have won so few?

Webbo

No, sorry. Not the best in Europe. Winners of the Cup.

Who said cups were easy? Not I. I mentioned the luck aspect, not the ease of winning. Try to concentrate.

I really think it is funny that Derby fans are trying to devalue the worth of winning a European Cup.

As Webb said all the top teams in Europe who have won their respective league are in the cup, and when we won the European cup it only included the champions of each league (except Liverpool who had won the cup the year before) so surely by beating the best of each league makes you the best overall, or are we going to try and compare this to Wigan now ?

Come on just admit it, just because you haven't got one and your neighbours have two through Brian Clough and Peter Taylor you are fuming!?

We were the best in Europe : Fact

No use arguing because we beat Malmo in a final. We had a play-off for the Super Cup and won that against Barcelona, who had won the EUFA cup.

We were simply "The Best"

End of argument. We've got two and you ain't got none

Derby must be very unlucky then; having only won 1 major trophy in 125 years Vidal.

Derby fans do make me laugh, the only achievements they seem to mention is beating us and their promotion to the premiership (with our current manager of course). If that is the sum total of your success since your last trophy win it is a pretty poor state of affair. Since you last won anything the likes of Oxford, Luton, Norwich and Wimbledon have won major trophy's.
It amused me a couple of years ago at Matlock. There were souvenir plaques celebrating our local club's five major honours. Ours included the European Cups, League title, FA Cups, League Cups and our fifth was either the Super Cup or Charity Shield. On Derby's they were struggling after four with their fifth being either the Watneys Trophy or Derbyshire Senior Cup

Winning a knockout Cup doesn't make you the best of anything, SBD. It just means you won a Cup. Which is nice, but winning four or five games is all that it involved back then, with many of the best sides in Europe excluded as only one team from each country could compete. Winning the FA Cup was actually much harder, but the League was and still is the most difficult and therefore the most prestigious to win. All of the wise are agreed on this.

This is a fantastic WUM Vidal
