People on here greeting about Scots. Have you ever been to the Highlands?
Some of the most welcoming laid back and friendly people up here. A far different mentality to anything south of Perth. I'd go as far as saying there's two Scotlands.., north of Perth (with the exception of scaberdeen) and south of Perth.
As for Aberdeen its alright for a night out but i've never been without seeing at least one fight per day/night
And Aberdonians are the most openly hostile people i've ever met. It doesn't matter where you come from.. If it ain't Aberdeen they don't wanna know you and they make sure you know about it
I remember when Glasgow was given the Commonwealth Games.
They won over Halifax because Halifax was seen as too violent.
Halifax???
Some serious money must have changed hands for any cant to think Halifax is more violent than Glasgow.
Juke, I knew an Aberdonian over here and when he went home they wouldn't accept that he was one of them.
He had only been gone less than 5 years as well.
Jesus, I just looked around the library here and folk are actually studying!?!? In a library. At uni. Things are weird in London. Folk are also no very friendly, to keep it on topic
a mate of mine was up in Scotland a while back, he went to some old famous pub that does a million or so different whiskies,
the barman asks "what dya want pal?"
my mate says, "err, a gin and tonic please?"
the barman was unimpressed to say the least, my mate cottons on and says, "I will a drop of your finest whisky please"
the barman replies " certainly sir, anything else?"
my mate says "yeah, can I have some water with that?"
he was asked to leave.
"Compared to Aberdeen Glasgow is a far friendlier city."
That's probably true, but you also have to consider that Aberdonians are simply more reserved and less outgoing, not the same thing.
Their take on Glaswegians isn't so much that they're friendly, more that they love the sound of their own voice.
"I have no real pride at all in being Scottish, don't hate it but if truth be known I am mostly indifferent about our nation, I look at folk and don't see much I like"
Do you think if you'd grown up in the same circumstances in France, Netherlands, England, Ireland you'd feel any different?
"This self-congratulatory "wur ra friendliest city" nonsense does my nut in."
Precisely.
Every city in the world says it's friendly, Glaswegians seem to actually believe it.
Not knocking the place, I just think the whole "Glasgow patter" stuff is embarrassing nonsense.
"And Aberdonians are the most openly hostile people i've ever met. It doesn't matter where you come from.. If it ain't Aberdeen they don't wanna know you and they make sure you know about it "
Actually, I'll probably agree with that, to some extent. Like Glasgow, there is a mentality that you're nuts if you want to live anywhere else, and you're deficient if you're from somewhere else.
Generally people are utter idiots everywhere so this talk of a "type" of people from one city is baws.
