If avb is reasonable then he will understand that if a silly bid comes in for bale then the club would have no choice but to accept - so I can't see how that could be an assurance given. It is far more likely that he was backed with some players he wants or maybe he is just showing us loyalty
The club always has a choice
If Bale stays another season and performs on par (or even a little below par) compared with last season, his value will only increase. So regardless of the bid the club has a choice not to sell, as this asset should (fingers crossed) not depreciate... We should only sell if the player indicates he wants out
"Villas-Boas's representative, Carlos Goncalves, listened over the weekend to the proposals of PSG, who are bankrolled by Qatar Sports Investments, but Villas-Boas did not give them the encouragement that they wanted".

Why even send a representative to hear them out though?
Thats the puzzling thing.
Delighted with the news. Although we dropped a place, the last thing we need is another new coach with new ideas and who requires a bedding in period etc.
Stability is so important, even with just 1 full season under his belt, this is more than Moyes, Pellegrini, Mourinho and Martinez have at their respective clubs and could work to our advantage.

It could be more a case of PSG contacting Carlos Goncalves to sound out AVB's availability.
The logical conclusion is that after being informed of their interest, Goncalves discussed it with AVB who in turn advised he's happy at Spurs.
Nothing puzzling in my opinion. Just typical modern-day football where agents/representatives smooch (on yachts, holidays) with billionaire owners on a regular basis

This is modern football! It's a horrible business, unless you're in the elite. We're so close to joining the top clubs, but until we do, every season this is going to happen. One thing, surely the Qatari's would have offered AVB a better package than he's got at Spurs?!

Maybe the get out clauses or the promises (like a promise he could get Bale) didnt sit right - who knows.
I agree about modern day football though - there is just no transparantcy.
Good news. We can finally start to think about what business we can do on the final day of the transfer window now.

Let Fabregas be an example of how much you could lose on Bale a season on ... we know he'll be off soon anyway so might as well cash in now if you care about the money

Is it safe to assume that Fabregas wanted out long before he was sold though?
Bale has made no reference to leaving, and I would expect his form will stay top notch next season, thus maintining his value
