More like this based on Spain's actually formation and VDB's favs.

GK: Casillas, Valdez, Reina, De Gae

RB: Arbeloa, Azpiliqueta, Juanfran, Carlos Martinez, Hugo Mallo, Carvajal

CB1: Ramos, Puyol, Matinez, Dominguez, Botia

CB2: Pique, Albiol, Arribas, Mikel Gonzalez

LB: Alba, Monreal, el shopping trolley, el golf bag, Enrique

DM 1: Busquets, Martinez, Garcia, Illaramendi

DM 2: Alonso, Benat, Mario Suárez, Camacho

AM: Xavi, Cesc, Cazorla, Valero

WFL: Iniesta, Villa, Mata, Isco

WFR: Pedro, Silva, Navas, Muniain

CF: Soldado, Negredo, Torres, Llorente

The are ranked 1, 2, 3, 4 and get very unrealistic after that.

Nachos
Chico
Deulofeu
Thiago
Arteta
Michu
Enrique
Lopez

These players are just random selection because you don’t know any other Spanish players, most have barely played first team football never mind being anywhere the Spain squad.

Trojan, that's very harsh. Opinions are opinions, but I very much doubt he doesn't know any others given some of the names included. Also, I don't understand it to be about who Del Boy might or might not choose. He won't make any wholesale changes from now until the World Cup, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the 23 men who make the squad will be the best available.

Also, it's debatable who he might go for out of those he's never called up or called up only once or twice.

I don't think Thiago is any further away from Del Boy's plans than Borja, despite the latter's great season at Fiorentina. In fact, I'd say it's the complete opposite.

Nachos is a nickname for Monreal, so nothing at all to object to that inclusion. Not saying he's better or worse, but Montoya I'd say is closer nowadays than Hugo Mallo and maybe even Carvajal.

Michu I don't think was that far off getting a call up this year. Not as an AM but as a striker, esp. in view of the poor form most of our current ones showed at different points this season. Who outside of that list would he have gone for? Ruben Castro - maybe, but he's what, 31, 32, too late for him I reckon. Would Piti, Agirretxe, J.Molina or even Aduriz be any closer than Michu? I seriously doubt it. The up and coming U21 strikers are still too green, not even guaranteed starters in their own teams. Who else is left? Bojan?

On Villa, the only place I'd have for him in my side would be striker. I don't care much for him out left, much less since his injury.

Diego Lopez has been an international before. I've always rated him personally, ever since he was our reserve keeper at Madrid and much more when he was actually allowed to prove himself at Villarreal. I'd personally take him ahead of Reina nowadays. Unfortunately for him though, I doubt he'll get many more chances at Madrid now Mourinho's moved on, so he might as well wave goodbye to the national team.

Arteta will never be called up, just as Palop never got called up. It's a shame that two players of their quality won't have earned a single cap for Spain by the time they retire.

Deulofeu I agree is too far away for the time being. Let's see first if he makes it at the pro level at all, let alone Barça.

Chico? Well, we all have our man-crushes.

Well the back up Spain team is on bbc3 right now, I've pretty much got it spot on.

If you look at the OPs original teams it's pretty clear that he was making room for his own preferences, not just thinking about who DB would go for. I seriously doubt he thinks Pedro or Arbeloa are 3rd choices. I don't think there's too much doubt about who might make a 1st or 2nd team, but given the depth in Spanish footy right now, a 3rd or 4th team would be pretty debatable imo.

Anyhow, nothing wrong with a bit of debate, I just thought the tone in "random selection because you don’t know any other Spanish players" was a bit excessive.

Btw, both auba and Trojan, do you guys know about ja606's Liga thread? It's a place to discuss Liga stuff and get to know a few more of the Liga fans on this site. It's been running several years now, stretching back to the days of the old BBC 606.

There's also a Liga predictions league. This year's is all but over (only the 3rd team promoted from Segunda still to be decided), but the link will give you an idea of what it's about in case you'd like to take part next season:

Would be great to see you guys round there.
