I disagree with you on Pirlo, Trojan. Granted, he might not be the player he was in his absolute prime, but I still find him a joy to watch. He hasn't lost an ounce of his technical ability. I personally thought he was outstanding for the first 70 or so minutes of last night's game. Even saying this as a Spaniard, his distribution, the range and perfection of his passing was a delight to behold.

Scholes in his prime was miles better than Iniesta and pretty even with Pirlo. Agree that Xavi is better than him though, Xavi is the best midfielder of his generation by a considerable distance.

That's a pretty bold statement Macca! It's a bit of both for me, Messi makes them look good as well, it is how they all work together. Look at Messi when he doesn't have the ball and drops deep, he creates the space for Iniesta to exploit. Either that or gets the ball, runs round everyone and scores!

I think Messi's never going to be one of my favourite all-time players, but he's horrifyingly good. It's almost a shame that the other two have had him take centre stage, and it's quite unfair imo people consistently try to detract from each one's merits on the basis of having the others alongside him.

Agree completely. They compliment each other very well, it shouldn't detract from how good they are individually.
