I think it's hard to judge. He doesn't play in a defensive position for his club, only Brazil. He seems to be somewhere in between Sandro and Dembele, but i'e got a feeling he'll be the kind of midfielder that does a Frank Lampard and will sit on the edge of the box waiting to pounce. He'll get goals, no question.
By the way, you're not on your own. Didn't Gary Lineker tweet something along the lines of him being massively overpriced on Twitter?

How dare you criticise a player with the suffix
inho!!!!
They don't just make these names up you know.
You must be good if you have these names
Did he ? I think ole big ears may be right. Sandro seems to have a lot more about him if you ask me and he was only about 6m. I really was watching him closely and he was almost a bit lazy too.. Wry short 3 yard passes most of the time then he would just trot around a bit. There was an occasional bust forward but that was it, he barely passed forward and really was anonymous! I hate to say it.. He was like the Brazilian Jenas!
exactly greatteams, people were complainign saying we rarely score from midield. We look to have finally found that solution and people are still not happy. Paulinho goal scoring record is superb.
I think the problem is people are confused about Paulinho. He is played in a much more withdrawn role for Brazil than he is for his club side.
Off the ball Brazils tactics are to close down and pressure thus including the positioning Paulinho looking more defensive than he actually is.
Good player but vastly overpriced. For the record Spurs are paying around 12 million/13 million not 17 million.
Ginola
You have the 'I' and 'AM' the wrong way around
NacDan... I hear Daveinho is highly rated over there.. We may have trouble with third party ownership though as Yorkie and fosters share 50% stake.
look like, i think you need to reassure the negative spurs fans that we are indeed still signing paulinho and it's not gone t its up
Looklike
He seems to be keeping a few players out of the brazilian team , i like the look of him, i trust the judgements of our scouting network etc

you cant buy players via ebay via twitter either mate.
Hombre! So I have.. Haha. Still think it applies though!
Modric.. You could well be right there and I was hoping that was the only reason. He did look out of place there, almost as though he wasn't aware of what to do in his position. He seemed to pass the ball to Gustavo and run backwards quite a bit.
Ill be very happy to be proved wrong, Baldini has an excellent track record with picking up players and hopefully this continues with Paulinho.

Dont we already have that solution in Dempsey and Siggy though?
Yeh but siggy plays in different positions and Dempsey was used as a forward, he's not a midfielder. I'm talking about a lamp are style midfielder, this is what paulinho is.
Don,
Siggy only plays in different positions because thats where he's picked to play - he doesn't have to play everywhere.
In fact, i was only saying on here the other day that he hasn't really ever been played in his preferred position, and now we're paying £17m for another player who plays the same role.
I think we're all excited at getting a new signing but is this really the area that we need to strengthen and use this amount of our kitty?
I'm not so sure.
I didnt think he was terrible, was pretty solid in midfield and comanding. Had a fair bit of flair that was nice to see, and was pretty commanding.
However he definitely wasn't the third best player in the tournament. I dont even think he was the third best player for Brazil.
David Luiz, Neymar, Marcelo, Fred and Cesar all had better tournaments IMO
He reminds me of Palious (don't care how I've spelt it). Hopefully he will be a good addition to the squad.

....fair play...
It was a final. Brazil played well but Paulinho in that role for Brazil against the world No.1 side was always going to be a bit more withdrawn, with the attacking stars doing the damage. He kept it simple & tidy which is what I think would have been asked of him in such a massive game.
