Finn.....raw aggression....really?!! So he bowls a bit faster than Broad & Anderson, big deal. He's decidedly average and would have made no difference to what's gone on whatsoever.

Hate the way people go on about him like he's some kind of prodigy
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nothing to do with the speed he bowls. His aggression, no other England bowler seems to show any

I'd go with

Cook
Root
Bell
Pietersen
Stokes
Buttler
Broad
Anderson
Borthwick
Rankin

Not sure about 11th player. Whether to go batsman or bowler.

Don't know what that team for DJ but its pretty rubbish.

Root cant open and has been found out, and Borthwick and Rankin just aren't good enough.

One dayers. But I forgot KP won't play. Morgan instead of him.

What aggression?? He's hardly in the Johnson, Steyn or Hayden mould. He can't even do moody like Anderson and Broad, let alone aggressive.

The last truly aggressive seamer we had was Simon Jones. That was a guy willing to trade it with the likes of Hayden, Warne, Ponting, etc.

So again, what aggression??

England

Purple patch is over boys. Time to go back to what you always were; nothing but an average team.

Bairstow has got to be one of the worst test prospects going..flashing at anything and everything. If he's the best replacement england have for Prior, england are in serious trouble. Ballance...Root..Carberry...these guys are pants. Not world class at all.

Rankin will be a 1 test wonder.
id go for this when trots back..

Cook
Trott
Bell
Pieterson
Root
Stokes
Butler
Borthwick
Broad
Finn
Anderson

Im lost for a spinner to be honest but borthwick in. borthwick doesn't look ready though. does he normally bowl that quickly? he looked like he had to be someplace.. They way he bowled his overs in the first innings.

That's if Trott comesback. Ive always thought he should open. Not a new thing with me.But no doubt Root will continue to open and continue to get trapped on the back foot.. unable to get forward and spewing the ball toi the slips an gully.

Cook will be captain come Sri-lanka.. He wont stand down. England will beat sri-lanka and everything will be rosey again. well for the time being anyway.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah cook wont be going anywhere...but whether we are good enough to beat the sub continent sides is not certain by any means even at home....we will need to be mentally better after this utter mauling...hopefully we use the experience as a positive and grow from it....

We won't get the Cook of 2010-11 back until the weight of captaincy is lifted.

He is no Brearley, and therefore cannot survive a terrible run of form as an opener.

ECB have thrown their weight behind Flower. Gooch going nowhere soon.

Looks like we will bumble along as we have done for the last 18 months.

Johnson's got a pink moustache. I wonder how many England players join in the occasion?

Glen McGrath is huge. He drawfs all the Aussie bowlers.with ease.

KP bowling ahead of the debutant spinner

posted on 5/1/14

Statistically speaking, KP actually topped the bowling averages when we won here 3-1

Cook really doesn't know what hes doing. Really does knock the confidence of the supposed number1 spinner in the team.

In the last test he started with root ahead of monty and now kp ahead of borthwick

Can't hold a candle to Strauss and Vaughan as a student of the game. They have forgotten more than Cook will ever know.

He should get back to just batting.

Well played Rodger. Excellent ton from the old man.

Broad's wicket through and through - it was him who insisted the man be posted there.

In a bit of a pickle

This is actually very watchable now. The pressure is off and it would appear that we're trying to enjoy ourselves and play some positive cricket.

We're going to lose, that's a given, but for now let's just enjoy watching us bat at 4 per over. Been a while

Cracker of a catch by Bailey and Pietersen is a goner.
