The biggest mistake was not sacking coyle after relegation, this set us back another 6 Months. Don't agree about klasnic,he was a busted flush when he left and we could not afford to pay him.according to my mate Mr pedia he has only played 3 games for Mainz last season.
The difference currently is that the La manga trip will be about getting ready for the new season and not about an extended holiday or minor sports tournaments between the lads.
Coyle and Freedman have completely different ideas about team building. A happy team is a winning team.
The biggest thing I'd heard on an interview with Baptiste is that Dougie immediately told him what his weaknesses were and how he'd sort them for him.
Think the problem we had under Coyle was that if we didn't convert our chances when we were playing well then heads would go down and mistakes would be made. Then the tiredness - always the tiredness.
tiredness through to much table tennis
I think that people are a bit harsh on Coyle. How many on here were thinking we'd be winning the league last season or at least in the top 6. I certainly thought we were good enough with what we had. I don't know what Coyle thought, but maybe he was as shocked as us with what was required. The Championship has changed over the years, Coyle just wasn't as ready as we all thought he should have been. I think if he'd been given January to address the problems, life wouldn't be much different to what it is now for BWFC. Dougie did nothing till at least February for me.
elwanderer, I liked Owen Coyle and thought he could take us back up. At the end of his reign I knew he had to go. We have to be honest and admit he just wasn't good enough.
From the terrible Semi final against Stoke in the cup to the day he was sacked, it was downhill all the way and there is no way he was going to pull it round. He had lost whatever he had as a manager. Sad really but he could not have emulated what Dougie did from February onwards.
I have no doubt that Freedman is the better of the two managers. We will know for certain at the end of this coming season.
It might have worked out for coyle if he had a proper backroom staff rather than just his pals. I can still remember sandy Stewart with the players on the pitch at wolves having a totally half hearted kick about involving players shooting at an empty goal.most missed apart from josh vela who seemed to be the only player to be taking it seriously. A far cry from the days Phil brown put the players through rigorous workouts.
Freedman also made clear changes mid game to affect the result which I rarely saw coyle do.
Fate is an interesting beast. It is good pals with hindsight and coincidence.
If we had sacked OC when we went down, we probably wouldn't have got Dougie. We'd have ended up with Mick McCarthy or some other such journeyman.
Delighted with Dougie. Delighted with another season in this league, to be honest. Last season was the best fun I've had in years. And the most games I'd been to for ages.
Its catch 22 vera. No doubt if we had gone up we would have struggled to stay up this year and get tonked by the likes of city, united,Chelsea. I'm looking forward to the new season and some god away trips although the novelty will have worn off as will be revisiting the same grounds apart from the 3 promoted teams. Goodness knows where we will be though if we do not go up this season as the parachute money payments dwindle in size. Won't be able to keep paying players £20000 + a week.
Which is why we are going up as Champions this season.
Behind the scenes is what excites people which is strange but understandable. The facade of a top flight team with lower level tactics, preparation and organisation is what we have stomached for too long.
We will never get amazing players but we used to get silk purses out of sows ears with what went on behind the scenes. That brought us success and it seems DF is heading back that way.
