Betting suspended on Skybet. Mind you, they had the move at 1/10 a week ago.

He'd be an idiot to join Bayern

He's be just as worse off there than at barca in terms of playing time and pecking order

He was never going to join Man Utd. Just would not suit him. Lets face it, with our style of play it's gonna be hard to play the expansive game the modern footballer thrives in. Thiago was always a no go. Fellaini, Strootman to an extent are more realistic buys. However, I have a feeling Cleverley and Anderson will be given a go.

The radio station reporting it says Pep will put Javi Martinez at CB to accommodate Thiago alongside Schweinsteiger. Remember Thiagos agent is Pep's brother

Spanish radio station Cadena COPE has stated that Thiago Alcantara will sign for Bayern Munich, but it's not done just yet.

Spanish radio station Cadena COPE have claimed that Thiago has decided to move to Bayern Munich, and could be announced tomorrow.

That has, predictably, sent Twitter into meltdown, but it's not all bad news. COPE are, of course, just one source, and are as likely to be wrong as anyone else - see, for example, 'Sport's repeated wrong reports on this subject all summer.

To make matters even more interesting, the radio station has had previous run-ins with Barcelona. Their loyalties very much lie with their rivals, Real Madrid, and were successfully sued recently after claiming that Barcelona had been doping players, based on a questionable source from Madrid. They're no friends of the Catalans, and the chance to claim that their beloved former manager was about to steal one of their best youngsters from them may have been too good to pass up.

They claim that Thiago will be accomodated by moving Javi Martinez to centre-back. The flaw in this argument is that Bayern would then have to move one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the game to defensive midfield. In addition, Thiago is still competing with Mario Gotze and Toni Kroos. It's barely any easier to break into than Barcelona's midfield. There's also the fact that Pep Guardiola has repeatedly insisted he wouldn't make a move for the player, and that there have been no reports in the German media.

In addition, COPE are hardly likely to be the best-placed to know what was going on. If this was a sudden U-turn from Sport, who will actually have sources at Barcelona, or a new report in Bild, then it would be time to start getting very worried. But for now, it's probably best not to overreact to the news.

Of course, it could well be true, but... let's just treat this about the same as we would if this was a report in the Daily Star, shall we?

His dad said a decision would be made in the next few days on Monday. We're in the next few days zone now, he's clearly Munich bound. What an awful start to the window

Was he just a smokescreen for you to sign Ozil...?

I've said all along we weren't going to sign him and to this day there still exists no proof that United were ever interested in signing him. It's getting awfully close to the time where the words "i hate to say i told you so" will have to be uttered and on this one i really will hate it. If the slim possibility still exists that we might sign Thiago I still really hope i've been wrong all along. But this latest news does not surprise me at all.

This was always on the cards. Utd never really showed any clear real interest. I feel we have other targets. But none of them will get fans excited. I genuinely believe the board and our ex manager told Moyes the midfield is strong.

Nolhman, if this radio station had reported he's signing for United, you would be on here saying they've made it up. You know it.

He'll probably go to Bayern, yes, but to claim we never showed interest is quite naive.

No one has a clue whether we are/were in for him or whether this latest report is accurate. Everyone is just guessing.

I find it strange how a reasonable number of our fans rejected every story linking Thiago with United as media rubbish with nothing behind it, and are now proclaiming a story of seemingly similar reliability as fact because it says he is going somewhere else.

The original story (Marca reported that the story came from Cadena COPE).

Translation of the title (if you can't work it out)...

Bayern Munich, possible destination for Thiago.

Exactly. OOF in particular is determined to interpret everything in the most negative possible light. Had we signed Thiago, he'd have found a way to make that seem catastrophic.
