As a neutral, I have to say I think Sturridge is the better player by some distance.
I strongly agree with Blue Kenyan. Welbeck's technical ability, touch, vision etc, isn't and never will be up to scratch.
Sturridge on the other hand, has all the ingredients to become a top, top striker. He has everything I mentioned above.
Sturridge is better than Welbeck in almost every department imo.
However, they're both vastly superior to Hernandez

Perhaps if those two teams were Stirling Albion and Cowdenbeath...but not Man U or Chelsea.

Kamran you are a total eejit.
Blue Kenyan
I have seen a lot of Sturridge, though not as much as a Chelsea supporter. I did not compare Sturridge to Owen, I used him to distinguish the type of player Welbeck is. That you would fob off a comparison between Welbeck and Berbatov shows any one who knows Welbecks style of play properly, that you haven't seen close to the amount you think you have of him. I did not write this article to encourage the who is better arguments. Come out of your comfort zone and discuss the topic, rather than what you're used to doing. It is no fault of yours, but 9/10 articles on ja606 descend in to "player vs player" or "witty response > wum > name calling > filtering" Try to break the mould.

Here we go
Here comes Sturridge > Welbeck brigade
what took you so long?
Ok, fair enough, I thought Owen was a reference to Sturridge. Well you're better placed to have your say on Welbeck as you've obviously seen more than me, but from what I've seen it just didn't match what you described him as. I'll have a closer look on him next season, and in the England game if he gets a chance. I don't think Welbeck is a bad player BTW, I hope you don't think I'm WUMing, he's very much a team player and will always try his hardest, but I just think Sturridge has much more to his game.
Ahh good.

Blue Kenyan.
Glad to see you are open to real discussion. No I don't think you're a wum, but I do think you should give players of other teams more opportunity to show their class before dismissing them. Hit YouTube (not the best place to scout is it :/) and try and find some clips just of Welbecks preseason stuff. Some of his footballing ability is sublime. I have no doubt that it should change at least your opinion of him if not the player superiority question.
We've just signed a Costa Rican kid called Joel Campbell.
He looks very similar to Sturridge.
Sorry, I rate both players. Completely different players but their qualities is what makes them have such a good partnership at least at youth international level. Maybe we should be debating why they both weren't included in the squad! Will do

I think if people genuinely did this every time you make a prediction, you'd look like swiss cheese by now. You may be right this time though, think Sneijder will stay for a medical after the England friendly.
Welbeck and Sturridge have both looked really hungry and eager to impress during pre-season, and I'd be happy to see Welbeck start in the community shield today. Sturridge, well I feel a bit sorry for him because I just dont see where he'll fit in at Chelsea. He'd be suited playing on the right in a 4-3-3, but i cant see the likes of torres/drogba/lukaku rotating for the central spot, or playing on the left. That would leave the possibility of 4-4-2 with sturridge on the bench.

Why do I feel that there will be many Sturridge vs Wellbeck debates in years to come. ?
Please spare us, we´ve been seen too many Lampard vs Gerrard debates to last us a lifetime on this board.
Just accept that both are very good players who can bring something special to England in the years to come.
It won't be as bad as the Wilshere/McEachran debates that will come...
