The first quarter-final saw Ludy versus Tyke, with Ludy never having beaten Tyke in a meaningful game, this saw Blackpool take on Watford. This game started as Ludy’s defence v Tyke’s attack and this theme continued throughout virtually the entire match with Ludy’s Blackpool having sporadic breaks and mounting a rare attack, however it was Ludy’s defence doing all the talking with Tyke’s Watford not able to get the goal despite a few close chances, this match inevitably went to golden goal. What threatened to be a long golden goal period if the previous match was anything to go by, ended in the 9th minute when Ludy broke and placed one passed Tyke’s keeper to send him out and win his first ever knock-out match! Off to the semi-finals he goes.

The second quarter-final was between surprise package Tbag and three time champion SpursBoy with Barnsley taking on Burnley. From what I could gather in this match was SpursBoy dominating the game as he tends to do and Tbag struggled a lot especially in that first-half which saw SpursBoy notch up two goals to put him in firm control of the tie. This was how it stayed and so Tbag was out, but can be proud of his efforts, whilst SpursBoy marched on in search of a fourth title.

This quarter-final saw Bubbles and TopLad get re-acquainted rather quickly. Now I don’t know too much about this match in regards to who scored and when, but it looked like an absolute thriller as Bolton faced off against Blackburn. There wasn’t much to separate the teams or the two players as the match finished 3 – 3 and went into golden goal when TopLad struck first to finish the match and send him through to the semi-finals. Bubbles had a solid debut with something to build on.

The last quarter-final saw old rivals Kent and Junior square off with Cardiff facing Millwall. Despite being favourite this match didn’t exactly go to plan for Kent who was blighted by not one, but two goalkeeping blunders which enabled Junior to capitalize and take full control of the match. Kent did get one back, but Junior was in no mood to let this opportunity to pass by and ran out a 3 – 1 winner to rip this tournament wide open and send the favourite Kent with Cardiff, out. Is this the star of a Junior revival?

So the first semi-final saw Ludy and his Blackpool face SpursBoy and his Burnley. Despite Ludy having a solid defence in this tournament, it would be SpursBoy who drew first blood and go 1 – 0 up in this fixture. With Ludy now having to go out and find the goal, could he do it against SpursBoy? You bet he could! Ludy found his way back into the game and take this game to 1 – 1 which is how it finished and golden goal ensured. In a nervy golden goal which lasted longer than Ludy’s last one, his pacey forwards once again did the business getting the golden goal and dumping SpursBoy out the tournament, Ludy was through to a unprecedented final, whilst SpursBoy had a respectable tournament showing.

The second semi-final was an old School semi-final, I say this because both participated in the first ever tournament back in February 2012, it was TopLad v Junior, Bolton v Millwall. Judging from what I read from this game Junior’s luck was in once again. A torrid first-half showing from TopLad saw two of his players sent-off. Once again he seized the opportunity scoring two goals and taking firm control of the match, TopLad did manage to get one back, but was always going to be up against it in such circumstances and Junior was through to his first final since the SPL tournament winning 2 – 1. TopLad can be proud of his return though, a very respectable semi-final finish.

So the final, he has downed Tyke and SpursBoy, would giant-killer Ludy and his Blackpool take down Junior and his Millwall? It is worth noting that they had previously faced off in there Group B game with Ludy coming out victorious 2 – 0. In what sounded like another attack v defence game, Junior’s attack didn’t take too long to be successful against Ludy’s defence and this resulted in a first-half goal for Junior, however Ludy has proved he can get back into games so this match was far from over. As the second-half went on it began to look more and more ominous for Ludy and the match did finish 1 – 0. So Junior was champion once again, giving him his second title and his redemption is complete after suffering some real tournament lows recently. Ludy once considered the preverbal minnow is no longer that after making some solid progress these last three tournaments, he is now truly a threat to anybody he faces.

Junior is now the champion, after the shock of Dog winning last time, it was now Junior’s chance to revel in the victory. Can he keep hold of his title? Find out as the tournaments go to Italy in the Sire A Tournament on the 4th August!
