Yes theres only one Ian Bennett..
He also reacted clickly to put P Clark in the recovery position when he got knocked unconscious...
And what about Clarks recovery, he came round then walked to the half way, gave his head a shake then carried on as normal...
we didnt lose...bury worked hard...it didnt rain..clark says he will work hard on the training pitch this week..which would be ok if he actually knew/accepted what was wrong...
Port vale tuesday night, early chance to change tactics/formation...restore confidence etc.
trouble is, LC's had 6 wks pre-season coaching/training with players...the longer he has with them the worse we get...We were better last season when we were playing 2 games a week.. Sorry, that's negative..Early chance to correct things then a nice easy game at Rochdale to look forward to, then another one at Hartlepools...
Bennett was solid as ever.
McDermott does look lively and will be an important player for us.
Novak once again proved how useful he is from the bench.
Woods was just as bad pre-season as he was yesterday, people have been saying that for a while.
Roberts and Rhodes weren't in the game at all, Bury fans after the match were shocked to say the least that Rhodes isn't the world beater they're made to believe.
terrier..
if we had , had a decent offer for rhodes he would not be here..
it appears to be lee clarks main aim in life now to try and prove he was right about jordan..
telling him he can play the lone striker role isnt helping him though..
ok we lost at old trafford but we havent lost a league match since southampton, i cannot for the life in me work out why we havent got more confidence and why the new signings havent added to that overall feeling of confidence, it beggars belief..
Rhodes needs someone to play alongside him..I thought we were going to have Novak and Rhodes as a pairing this season, but obviously not.
There were signs that the midfield players were trying to play it along the floor, and a few cameos in and amongst, the final piece must be in the striking dept where we need some pace.
Being optimistic, such a horrible start should act as a wake up call that no one in this league is going to give us an easy ride...and I did warn that Bury had the best away record last season and were no mugs...to which replies were 'ooh bury...we'll beat em 6-0'..
Hopefully it won't take 20 odd games to sort out the problems as it did last season. Johnson will return soon, Hunt and Cooper maybe too
The pies are better now, that's about as positive as I can be
jacko..
bury just required to work hard to get the result..they did and we, like last season on many occasions lacked any co hesion or guile to win the game..
if we can be stopped just by the opposition working hard it will be a long season..
spoke to my mate in brighton, donny worked very hard and got a goal to defend..they also played very well in the first half..
brighton changed at half time, put an extra striker on and went for it.. 2 late goals after missing lots of chances won the game..the extra quality and the pressure and team effort paid off.. like he says, we are a better team than donny, we were at home and the manager was totally off his head during the first half and as they walked off for half time..
mad or not, he has the ability and the b-lls to make the utmost of what he has on the field..."we love him"..
be nice if anyone thought that about lee clark, the constant repetition of "lee clarks barmy army" does not quite ring true..
If we're aiming for 92 points to 'guarantee' auto promotion, we can afford to lose 8 games and draw another 10 out of the next 45...that doesn't sound too difficult does it ? How's that for being positive.
38..agree. But surely somebody within the coaching staff has an 'insight' into these things? Is it ALL down to LC , I don't know if he listens to others or if they are just yes men. LC made a big issue of his backroom staff when signing contracts, are they ALL missing things or what.
i saw Poyets rant, and how he pushed his own coaching staff out of the way too...he's a man with his own convictions to be sure, wish he was here.
I'll tell you the best thing that happened yesterday, Clark's stupid team selection didn't work. Had we won maybe it may have continued and lost us more points in the long run. Hopefully this will be the end of trying to fit in the stupid amount of midfield signing and we can go to a straightforward 4-4-2 with 2 strikers. PS. i thought Rhodes put himself about yesterday and it was he who won the ball for our goal.
I mentioned it earlier boooothy about Rhodes but got the usual replies of 'not from where I was sat blah blah blah'!!!
People want him to hustle and chase more and then when he does they totally annoyed the fact. I made that point quite loudly at the game yesterday!!
Ignored the fact not annoyed***
I do my fair share of moaning Herbert but Town fans need to get behind Rhodes. If we are going up this season someone needs to score alot of goals and we only have one player on the books capable of doing that. The lad is a major talent and if he is not a success in his career i'll admit i know nothing about football because he is the best young striker a have every seen in my time folllowing Town.
Nice thread Myth.
Bennett - reliable as ever
Woods - needs to judge ball flight better and overlap
Clarke - would look better alongside someone with pace
Kay - mostly composed but a little weak for the goal
Naysmith - poor and like Woods refuses to get forward
Gobern - looks like he will be good, always wants the ball
Robinson - again will probably be good but not seen enough of him
Ward - will get better and better
Roberts - the good things he does are outweighed by the bad, can go for me
Donaldo - not in the game enough but glimpses of what's to come
Rhodes - put himself about a bit more but not enough balls into the box for him
Miller - looked ok and wanted the ball
Novak - very industrious and gave his all. Wants a starting place
Yeah agree again boooothy I'm quick enough to slag them buy also recognise the good too. I'm not a fan of Kay at all but other than the goal he was good yesterday. From the kick off though they caught us out within seconds. Also for the 'penalty' one ball over top and they are in behind us. I must admit I was sodje was a couple of years younger I would have him back like a shot!!
Agree, Rhodes put in a shift okay..but his most effective use is in and around the box.
Also thought we won more high balls in midfield and tried to bring it down more than before.
It still looked disjointed and reactive rather than fluent and joined up. Not enough runs off the ball for me, and the left side is a weakness. If we had a left back who had pace and could overlap it might help Roberts a bit too.
But hey, I'm being a negative loser and should stay away and follow man utd ..
Mr hoyle needs to come back off holiday and do the right thing and sack Clark , he is useless, if he doesn't act now it'll be too late and come Christmas we will be too far behind to catch up, Clark out
rhodes can score goals..he does not make too many and he does not make many for himself..
play to his strengths...
its like playing novak as a lone central striker and telling him not to chase wide balls etc..or putting balls into the channels for alan lee!!!!
let novak do the chasing and the harrying, let rhodes play in and around the box.. horses for courses..
and for gods sake let mcdermott do what he did for bournmuff...thats why we noticed him and brought him here..he drifts up and down and side to side, gets it and runs with it..he is not a halfwayline holder or a supporter of the lone striker..

==============
I'll take your word for that Hydey. They ran out of all pies in both bars in the DG Lower before the match even started. Appalling
Ttc, sorry to gloat but the meat and potato pie was lovely, puff pastry too! The lad that served me was a bit slow,I gave him £20 and he gave me £11 odd change!
It's so obvious 38, what are they watching that i can't see?
Any word on Robinson yet?
Anyone who thinks that Jordan Rhodws put a shift in yesterday is off their Rocker.
He didn't win a single challenge after the first 10 minutes and did nowt else apart from slipping Novak through for the goal.
A complete waste of space. Lee Clark seems to be being stubborn by playing him, but he'll cost him his job. Make no mistake about that.
