No-one seemed particularly bothered, especially Ade.. either he's off or he needs to be.
---------------

Were you expecting any better from Ade?? Silly boy...

As a lot of Spurs fans on here keep telling me " I think Ade will have a great season if he stays"

Why are they trying to deluded themselves into thinking this? If Ade is not the big guy then he dosen't give a s hit. Bale stole all the limelight last season and he hated it hence barely celebrating when Bale scored a beauty. I think Spurs fans are just looking at positives to try and justify Levy and CO not buying a striker by pretending it's all ok with a firing Adebayor, load of f ucking bolloks!!!!!

Although it is pre-season we have looked very lethargic in the last two games. Slow and boring.

On the subject of Ade not celebrating, it is more due to the fact that he fell out with the majority of the squad when he turned up at the team hotel after the African cup of nations. A lot of the boys had a word with him. This is why Bale would not run over and really celebrate with Ade.

Could be one of the best strikers in the world, but he does not bother. So frustrating.

its almost criminal to have that much talent.....and not WANT to maximise it to its fullest.....

I wouldn't worry about pre-season too much. We've just started and it had been stiflingly hot. It's all about fitness at this stage.

As I said in the Sandy article, in 2008 we were smashing all comers. I think we won every game, Bent scored a hatful and it culminated in a 5-0 Roma-papping and a Bentley masterclass. Not sure how we started that season.....

In 2011 we got outplayed at WHL by both Villareal and Atletico, yet went on to have a fabulous CL campaign.

If performances are still shaky in both games coming up, then maybe have a little worry.

As long as everyone is still fit after their run out I'm not bothered. In fact had we beat the teams we played so far by 4 or 5 or 6-0 some might make daft statement about the season ahead.

Keep everyone fit and lets hope AVB has a full squad to choose from for Palace away.

Calm down Hengy

What's bothering you? The only thing moaned about is Ade's total lack of effort.. which was a recurring theme last season.

Kane was a lot better than him when he came on. Says it all

Yeah we sang that song last season, when we were lethargic all preseason, with only Bale showing any real form.

Cue the season and only Bale and Verts out of all the players that played in preseason had stellar seasons, the rest continued their preseason form for the rest of the season... So maybe some worrying is not totally irrational...

Its early doors, yes, but there's nothing wrong with hitting the ground running like GB11

I never liked pre season in the heat & it has been excessively hot and dehydration sets in quickly. These games are meaningless and really a gentle way to build up to the start of a season.

As previously pointed out we have smashed teams pre season & then been rubbish in the league. On the other hand we have been beaten convincingly in pre season & gone on to play great football in the league & CL.

Genius

Yup, not a lot learned from the result but honestly Hudd's passing was all over the place. And Ade looked like he'd rather be in a dentist's chair than on a football pitch.

Make of that what you will.

Sorry guys how did Colchester keeper played??

Is it true he was man of the match??

on loan from Chelsea

posted on 20/7/13

I'm assuming the Chelsea lad played in the first half.. looked decent, made a couple of smart saves from Townsend.. looked a bit lost on corners though.

Could easily have been MOTM but I didn't notice.

I was probably one of the most consistent performers for the teams I played for. Very rare to have a poor game....in competitive football that is.

In friendlies I ranged from average to awful. Could not get myself motivated for them as nothing was riding on it, and it was usually the hottest time of the year.

Bust a gut to close a man down?
Nah.
Graze my legs doing a full-length slide on the astro/dry grass?
Nah
Be on my A game and not switch off.
Nah
Take out ball AND man in a 50/50
Nah
Treat it as a run out to ease the pain of playing that first league game?
Yep.

Preseason football result and performances are totally meaningless

Who remembers how devastating we were the preseason where we went on to get 2 points from 8 game

posted on 20/7/13

Totally meaningless?

I agree the result is but individual performances are worth noting.

Caulker, Rose, Townsend, Carroll all did well. Moany bunch of cants you lot.

Players fall in to two main categories - those that play with the same commitment whatever the occasion, and those that only get going when it means something. Younger players trying to establish themeselves usually fall in to the former category, and it would explain why the players that you say played well did.

As long as the players are getting fit, and they do the business when the real stuff kicks off, that's all hat matters.

I mean, England have just beaten Spain and Brazil at Wembley and got a draw in Brazil's backyard in friendlies. Do we seriously think it would happen in competitive football? Not for me - more likely the inferior England players saw a scalp and some prestige and tried their hardest - probably like Swindon and Colchester, and Brazil and Spain went through the motions

Cool story bro.

How do you explain Hudd misplacing 5 yard passes, putting it straight into touch, or just blindly hoofing it into space? Extra fitness work for the young lads?

When it happens during an actual match I'll take notice. It wasn't happening at the end of last season in competitive games, after all.

Unless he has a degenerative leg disorder is imagine not much has changed since then, so we will have to take your word for how woeful it was and put it down to it being pre-season.

posted on 21/7/13

The thing is he was hardly firing at the end of last season, he didn't convince me that he was back at all. Friday only confirmed my suspicions.

Friendly or no he should stand out against a Col U midfield. I hope we get 5m for him and Carroll gets more game time.

The passing wasn't his best last season, but he was still comfortably our best passer. If passing is your major gripe from Friday then it has to go down to a bad day.

Grab yourself the FourFourTwo app and look for yourself for the games at the end of the season - short passes, long passes, passes in the opposition half. Not just 3yd ones. Chances created was very high too.

I don't just make it up, it's what I see and is backed up by the data. I know how frustrating that is when you think otherwise, but I don't know what to say

posted on 21/7/13

That's fair enough HRH, I believe you and will check out the app later.

My issue with Thudd isn't particularly his passing, although it was poor Friday, more his mobility. However good you are on the ball in the PL you have to be able to win it back.

I just don't see how he fits in an "AVB team", that doesn't necessarily mean I think he's rubbish, just that he's not right for us. He'd improve virtually every side in the bottom half of the table.

Rumours surfacing from our resident ITK that McCarthy (sp?) of Wigan is on his way too.. so many centre mids!

McCarthy makes complete sense to me if Hudd and Parker (and likely Livermore) leave. As I said to you before, I think it would leave us light if we sell without another coming in, and a PL settled player is ideal really.

If McCarthy does come, it is 99% certain we will go all-out 433 next season:

CM options: Dembele, Sandro, Holtby, McCarthy, (and Carroll)

Adavanced CM options: Paulinho, Siggy

That's six senior options for the three positions. I suspect Paulinho will take time to settle as I said before, but that gives us ample leeway.

Personally I'd like Hudd to stay until January at least, and send Carroll out on loan until then, but I'd be far more comfortable if we sell him if we get McCarthy in. I still think it leaves is a little short on the disciplined defensive side, but not in numbers.

I'd have liked a proper goal scoring #10 really, so we can change it up and go with a 4411 when required but that's just me.

Had a little YT peek on Chadli - don't really remember him in the CL game to be honest.

He's left-winger which everyone is aware of, but he is very right-footed. That gives us a nice balance with the wide players - two lefties and two righties.

I suppose we could still go 4411 with Siggy, possibly even Paulinho - just got to wait and see how he is really
