Kenny's views on Doyle

I can think of many more reasons to keep Doyle than to sell him:

Reasons to keep him:
There hasn’t been the slightest hint that he has had anything to do with any dressing room unrest or has been disruptive so we can rule that out as a reason for him leaving.
Although he isn’t the most prolific he offers plenty of options i.e. part of a front two, lone striker, can play out wide so could be very useful.
His goals per a game record is bound to increase in what should be a winning team creating more chances.
He never let his head fall last season and worked hard even under Solbakken who seemed to encourage player not to work hard.
We are very short of experienced heads.

Reasons to sell him:
His wages are high.

So I agree Wulfrun – selling Doyle is about reducing wages.

Agree with your analysis Tatts, but also, Doyler may want to leave as he is coming to the end of his prime years so need to be playing at a higher level than tier 3 both from a financial point and also because he can and should.

Doyle was one of our best players in the Premier League and is far too good for League One. I can't say I think there is any chance he would stay, but even in a higher league I think him doing all the unselfish work alongside Griffiths would make a good pairing

Don’t disagree Cyp. I was looking at it purely from the clubs point of view rather than Doyles.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon, who failed in a loan bid for Doyle in January, said: “We have a No 1 striker in mind and, even if Gary stays, we would still like to bring that player in.
"I would like to have him by Thursday as he would then be eligible for the Elfsborg game, our Champions League third qualifying round tie next Wednesday.
“We’re working really hard on that but it’s slow progress. He’s a player we have liked for a while.”

Who knows Wulfrun?!??! Off again on again off again on again. It’s the brides knickers of a transfer.

I'm sure KJ would love to keep him, as Doyle is a model pro with plenty of experience and ability ...but he must be aware there's a very frugal budget to stick too. Now that Henry's gone that could change things a little. If we could offload either JOH or RJ that would probably make keeping him a viable option..

posted on 24/7/13

I think the budget is even more frugal than that Simon and that even if we get rid of O’Hara, Johnson and Ward they will still want Doyle off the books.

posted on 24/7/13

Not sure he would be a great loss at this stage, it looks like we are going to be a considerable threat going forward this year as it is.
That said, if KJ was going to go for a 4-3-3 he would be great as one of the wide players in that formation.

Seems to me that KJ is very aware of the long term picture, and does not want to slow down the progress of some of our talented youngsters.

Or he’s been told to lose anyone on over £10k a week.

Which do you think is more likely?
A manager who has seen the last three who have filled his role last fifteen months between them wanting to concentrate on long term rather than short term goals.

OR

A team that is likely to lose £20m this season being very keen to cut costs.

It is unthinkable that a League One manager would not want players of the quality of Doyle and Sako to help him be successful.

What would keep Jackett in a job - getting promotion or helping a kid with his early career?

posted on 24/7/13

Thats not how i meant it.

Cutting costs is always possible, but it begs the question, why wasn't he put in the category of the other 4? After all nobody seems to believe Ward is trouble so its nothing to do with reputation?

Doyle is a good good player, but he is not a goalscoring threat these days, when KJ is in the office analysing the players with Moxey they likely weigh up what Doyle brings to the table compared to what can be gained financially.

Celtic have accepted the bid for Hooper from QPR so I would think that Doyler is off to bonny jockland within the next few days anyway.

Hooper - rather an apt name from someone who moves from Celtic to QPR, dontcha think!

How will that alter the DJ/Puppet bet? Is SPL higher than Div3?

Talking of Puppet has he been around lately or is he still off deleting his Twitter history?

posted on 24/7/13

Nope, the Scottish league is considered a lower level.
I think DJ has stated this before so acknowledges he will lose 50 quid.
He also accepted a loss on Eggert as well.

posted on 24/7/13

The champions league is definitely levels above Wolves though. So i would argue that Perton should part with £50, should that deal go through.

posted on 24/7/13

I would agree, but DJ and I have had this chat before.

I think when you are comparing the strength of two leagues you should compare average teams in those leagues, not the best team or the worst team. Midway in the SPL last season were Hibs and Aberdeen. So I guess the question would be which league in England would they be comparable with. Hibs best player last year is playing in League One this season, although he might prove to be too good for that

Don't think its fair to compare against the Champions League cause even the Champions of Lithuania get into the early stages of that.

The Scottish Daily Express today (Thursday) has a back page story entitled "Lennon in mad dash to sign Doyle" > It would appear the ginge dwarf is determined the KD will be playing in the Champions League match tonight.
Obviously he hasn't done business with Jez Moxey before or he would realise that leaving the deal until he is desperate gives our Jez all the aces. I reckon a large wedge of his £5 million from QPR will be in Wolves bank by the weekend.
