Gareth Bale = 2 top players

It's an interesting one for you guys, but put yourself in Levy's shoes.

If they said to his agent they didn't want to pay him that, and the agent leaked it to the press, imagine the fan backlash

Looks like Nani could be leaving OT, how about Nani and Bebe for Bale?

AVB could probably get the best out of them.

Cannot see how Spurs can stretch to that.
So I take that figure with a pinch of salt.

POSTED THIS ON THE OTHER THREAD

I think paying 170k is a very dangerous game for us.

What if Bale isn't the star next season? What is our new striker is? Or Paulinho? Will they be knocking in the door for parity?

What if we have a good season all round? What will players on 40k a week think of someone earning 4x their salary?

It's all good and well saying just pay him, but the bigger picture has to be looked at.

Messiah, what 2 players though could we get that would be better than Bale? Realistic players mate so i'm not talking about Christiano Ronaldo etc. As it stands Gareth Bale is up there among the best players in Europe and certainly the best player in the premiership. If we want to keep up with the big boys then we need to keep our best players like United, Chelsea do. Bale leaving would almost throw in the towell and means top 4 is over before it even starts. 170,000 a week for a proven and superb Gareth Bale is a lot better than buying 2 players who might not even fit in or work.

HRH yeah thats where I'm coming from, its a very dangerous game, we are not creeping our wage budget up if this is true we're absolutely leaping into the unknown

Bale is better than any 2 players you can get, and he takes up half the space.

He is sublime, i'm astonished any of your fans are displeased with this. Each year with him in your team will be memorable. No WUM but you may never have a player this good again, not for a while certainly.

Given that over a year, 100K/week is the money that would allegedly pay off Soldados' greedy agent, are you happy for Bale to get that extra 70K and ditch plans for Soldado ??

posted on 26/7/13

Don are Spurs really in this position that we can pay nearly £9m per year to a player just to play for us? And what is this about anyway? Hes on a contract atm wasnt that just recently improved? So has he now asked to leave so we up it to crazy money?

Everyone seems resigned hes leaving next season so whats the point in paying him so much this season for him to leave anyway? Why not just tell him you're on a contract we pay you well. We expect you to stay until next summer and we'll talk to other clubs then. Job done, no major disharmony with the other players. No massive jump forward in our wage ceiling and we get to keep him for the next year and plan how to spend the money we get for him.

hrh, ok mate let's just get rid of him then mate and just go back to square one again. Sorry but this is a no brainer. Our best player and probably the greatest player to wear a Spurs shirt in my lifetime is thankfully not wanting out or kicking up a fuss. He deserves every last penny of the reported 170,000 a week because his brilliance will possibly get us top 4 next season which means his wage is justified. You ask these questions but no one knows the answers. In football every decision is a risk.. What if we sell Bale and come midtable? What if we buy players with the Bale money and they are flops? I can ask the same qustions as you have

All the more reason to send him our way

Man Utd players for Bale?

I'd take:
Vidic £10m
Fletcher £1.50 (cover for Sandro)
Zaha £15m
RVP £24m x 1.03 = £24.72m
Rooney << RVP
Andrei Kanchelskis £650k
Norman Whiteside Schoolboy

Plus £10m

where has this figure of 170k come from. i would be amazed if its as high as that.

seems the figure has been plucked from thin air.

170k is high, but levy wouldnt do it if he couldnt afford it.

plus we facked off gallas and bentley who were on about 75 and 50 respectively i would guess... so freed up 125k per week.

paulinho i would guess is on 40, chadli about 25... so thats 65k. leaving us 60k to play with inside our structure.....

if bale was on 100, then that 60 takes him to 160 for the same spend.

obviously these are rough calculations but the point is valid.

posted on 26/7/13

yeah thats a valid point chronic but we also need a top striker for us to move forward, the extra we're reportedly gonna give bale would pay all or the majority of a strikers wages surely?

posted on 26/7/13

I agree with HRH on it being a dangerous move in terms of the rest of the squad (& new signings) wanting parity, but on the flipside i would actually rather Bale on £170k than 2 potential squad filllers on £85k each.

we will surely sell parker at the very least. he must be on 60k. benny must be on 40. thudd on 40, livermore on 10, etc etc

i mean we will sell players too...

with regard it being a dangerous time... everyone complains about levy being tight, and when he is prepared to really offer an incentive for bale to stay, people dont want him to. the poor guy just cant win.

if we can't keep bale we won't attract the star strikers we're looking for to get to the next level

Shut up and get those cash balance estimates worked out.

I don't complain about levy being tight at all chronic I think hes a legend. I'm just cautious over this whole Bale thing. I laugh at other clubs paying player mental money to stay so I'm not gonna jump around for joy if we do it. I understand you need to pay a player what hes worth but where has this suddenly come from that we are a club that can afford to pay someone crazy money and leave our wage ceiling in pieces?

posted on 26/7/13

I agree with Mess, there's sticking up for Levy for not being tight and then there's financial suicide.

posted on 26/7/13

I read the other day that Bale has 3 years left on his contract. Is that the case?

Would having two years on his contract next summer reduce his value by the cost of a pay rise paid over the next 12 months?

King 'arry

We could do what every other club does mate and start a bidding war. Keep him for a year on his current wage tell him he can leave next year and get PSG, City and Real all bidding for him A few strategically placed statements about him during the year and we'd sit back and watch the price rise weekly

posted on 26/7/13

Messia Sounds goos for other clubs, but why do I get the feeling that it would backfire, he'd lose form andthen lose value.

posted on 26/7/13

Levy has never let the club down financially. If anything, he has strengthened it to a level most clubs (if not all) without CL envy. Why doubt him now?

I guess, give him a further contract which will mean his price stays the same next season due to contract length meaning he doesn't lose £9m on the sale.

Levy knows what he is doing.
