Port Vale V Huddersfield

This is a quick chance to put right Satdays dismal performance.Hopefully he will play 2 up front and knock this one up front malarkey on the head, its a cup tie for gods sake.

I 'd go for 3-5-2 give McDermott a free role,it might leave us exposed as Roberts and Ward are not great at tracking back and doing the dirty work of tackling,we could get clobbered on the break.Hopefully we'll progress no matter who plays surely we will have too much for them?

As Arterrier says, its a perfect opportunity to correct the mistakes made on Saturday and re-instil some confidence with a good win.

I hope we go for an out and out attacking formation from the get go, show our quality and drive to win and put the game to bed early. 3-0 for me.

Is 2 days between the Bury game and Port Vale game anough to sort out the debacle from Saturday ?

He won't play 2 up top away from home.it'll be 4-5-1 guaranteed...and Alan Lee might even get a game.

I'm sure our new midfield players will eventually deliver the goods, they looked to have potential at least from the Bury game...providing the 'framework' in which they are told to play does not negate their individual abilities.

I think 2 days it long enough for them to settle from the last game but short enough that mistakes are still fresh enough in memory to help in addressing the failures.

I don't think he will go attacking, but I'd like him to.

I think if we manage to bring the ball forward instead of just passing it around the back 4, and if our midfielders have the confidence to run with the ball rather than pass it 20 times to move a couple of meters forwards then we will do well and can keep the vale in their half.

If we get through and draw a big team I would miss it due to holiday!

Do I want us to win still.......hell yes

Most of the big teams are in Europe Inter anyway,so don't come into the 3rd round.Probably Everton or Newcastle would be the biggest draw.I would imagine Leeds will be seeded so they would be a good draw.Don't want Everton again to be honest nor Newcastle.

I just hope for a performance to get me believing we can be a force this year! I was bitterly dissapointed at the weekend so a resounding performance more than anything is key here!

Id go with Novak and Lee up front if 4-4-2, however if not, id go with Novak up top on his own. I think he deserves his chance to stake a claim now and given his goals in pre season, he might have the 'bit' between his teeth!

3-1 Town!!!

After Saturday he either has to admit he was wrong and change the system, or keep faith in his philosophies and stick with the 4-2-3-1. He obviously thinks it can work and I respect that, with a few tweaks he might get it to work, give him the time and the benefit of the doubt for the time being, as long as he knows the end result has to be success this season - albeit not in the League Cup.

He does however need to realise that Jordan uptop alone is bound for failure. Give Lee a chance if we're trying 4-5-1 because he did a great job in that role last season with zero support. It will be interesting to see what side he picks, I can't see anything other than one up front alone seeing as we're away from home.

terrier..
the formation wasnt, in my opinion, set up to allow town to play..
it was set up to negate bury..
thats the single biggest problem we have..

the team tommorow and saturday will be picked and set up to play port vale and rochdale, not so that huddersfield town can play.

they dont need to watch us, we are so busy watching them and working out systems to play them we seem to have a job for each of our lads to do, whilst the opposition have 2-3 lads doing what they please and they look twice as fluid and end up having men over and space that we cant find because we have to drop off and do our "marking jobs"...

its dull, its predictable and unless ward/roberts/mcdermott start their runs with the ball further up the bloody pitch its not going to get any better..

38, You got it there mate...The hopes I had of us playing some proper fluent football this season are dashed after one game..tactical nonsense from Lee Clark is going to kill our season, again.

might be a very different 11 tonight..not sure wether thats a good/bad thing..just know its not ideal...being forced into wholesale changes due to performances is not the best preparation for a game..

He won't make wholesale changes IMO, he'll give them a 2nd chance to try and understand the complexities of the triumvirate revolving striker support role..it's not rocket science, more like nuclear physics..

I reckon he'll make quite a few changes. I definitely don't think he'll go with Rhodes up top alone again, and I don't think Danny Ward will be playing more or less up front as he was at the weekend. I'm hoping if he has to stick with this system then he sees sense and goes with Lee up front.

posted on 9/8/11

If our midfield will actually bring the ball forward and pass it forward rather than across the back 4 or backwards then I think we'll find the system from Saturday will work much better. Keeping possession is pointless if you aren't going to work it forward as eventually the other team will start pressing you, the passes become rushed and end up being passed to other players who are under pressure and it ends up being sent back to the keeper.
