"So what are Liverpool doing? It just doesn't make sense."
makes perfect sense
selling to Arsenal is effectively owner suicide from a PR standpoint and completely and absolutely idiotic from a tactical perspective.
and the bid is pathetically low in this market
so we're digging in our heels to either get a significant amount more (at least £15 mil more) from Arsenal to dull the pain, or waiting for another bid, possibly even lower than the Arsenal one to come in.
I think if real bid £35mil they'd sell in 0.0001 seconds
Difference is RVP was on his last year and would have lost him for nothing if they held out. Suarez has 3 years left and will still retain value so I don't think RVP is a very good example.
---------------------------
We were willing for that to happen. There was no way we were going to replace a striker of the quality of RVP for £22m. In fact thats why RVP issued that statement. He was scared we weren't going to sell him.
Suarez does have 3 years left but the principle is the same. Saurez's value is decreasing every year. And his value next year will be less especially if Suarez decides to do a Bosman while doing work to rule.
we could take him to court (just like Chelsea did to Kezman
-------------------------
Indeed you could. But two things.
a) Chelsea are backed by a billionaire who is actually willing to invest in the team. He did not care whatever the outcome was. Will you be willing to lose £40m for ever? Your American owner is like ours. They don't invest a penny of their own money.
b) Liverpool are not a top club like Chelsea were at the time with limitless funds. This meant they could still over pay on wages and fees for players even after destroying their reputation on how they treat players. Players will not come if they have choice if they see Liverpool treating a world class player like Suarez this way. You don't have CL football or huge amounts of money. In fact neither do we. Thats why let RVP go.
I was saying hypothetically if he were to go against his contract we could take him to court, I'm not saying it was actually a realistic outcome. Let's just wait and see what happens this is pointless speculation.

This saga will unfold the coming weeks. Let's hope we can continue to have a civilised discussion about it, just like in this thread.
this is refreshingly civilised
I know!
I think I can add Serial to my short list of Arsenal fans I can have a decent debate with

You might want to rethink that short list, if in the unlikely event, we actually get Suarez.
