Anderson is world class

They'll probably work against weaker opposition when we are at home and largely on the front foot.

However, their partnership was rather exciting in 11-12 when we played some of the most attacking football in recent memory. I wouldn't write them off just yet.

Anyway, its a moot point, the most likely scenario is that either Anderson or Cleverley will be a partner for Carrick.

One of the biggest indictments of England now is that Carrick makes the squad when he has nothing to offer.
The biggest of all is that three of the current lot are squad regulars purely because they play for Man U when they are nowhere near Premier level let alone international level. By which I mean the risible Cleverley, Wellbeck and now Zaha who ploughed an unfruitful furrow at palace for too long.

Above has more or less described Gerrard to a tee.....kick, rush after it and give it away! Does zilch, whereas carrick actually passes to a team mate and wins things!

This guy clearly hasn't watched the PL in the last few years, but then I checked his profile and realised he's a dirty L***s fan, so it all makes sense now. 9 years and counting.

Carrick is hugely overrated because the rest of our midfield is so horrendously bad.

He can't compete against Europes best.

Because I grew up watching scholes and keane. And watching the elite centr MIDS of today's game such as xavi, iniesta etc.

And he is nowhere near that standard of player.

He does a job.

I agree with Stretty, look at Barca or Bayern, a player like Carrick is the minimum level acceptable for their midfield, as it should be with us.

Fed up of people slating our players like carrick, saying how they are not good enough, but then cant even give realistic replacements.

Carrick was one of our best players last season, just because he doesnt get 10-15 goals/assists every year. His passing is excellent and very rarely goves the ball away.
