I'll take a Dennis Wise director of football and raise you a Joe Kinnear. When it goes wrong it really does go wrong.

I must say I definitely like the benefits of the DoF approach. Since Michael Emenalo became our Sporting Director, the players we have signed (for the most part) have been young, exciting players with massive potential. I have also certainly been impressed by your own team's transfer dealings this summer which have been excellent.

Aye, and indeed at Comolli. For Spurs and Liverpool.

As a concept it works for me. It's more about how it's implemented. Which is the argument the article makes.

In the last 2 years, Spurs, Chelsea and Man City have bought the best in my view. Shame Spurs didn't pick up one of Mata, Hazard and Oscar (even though we were in for all of them!).

Obviously it depends on who you get in but I can't help but agree that a DOF is a great idea (if you get the right guy).

Managers have so much to oversee that they could easily not have time to prepare for transfer windows and in our managers case are too close to the players to see glaring weaknesses in the side. Someone who can step up back and assess the needs of the club without the burden of managing tactics and spoilt young footballers would make a real difference.

I just don't like the idea at all. I like the idea of the manger having total control, including stuff like whats on the Menu and the like. Manager should be the main man.

They're a means to an end, just look at City and Spurs compared to United and Arsenal this summer.. no contest.

Are Liverpool still playing moneyball?

I think Admin 1 speaks with a heavy degree of sarcasm

It will take a while for Baldini to adapt from spending 10-15m on his targets from clubs, to watching those same clubs get Levyed for 5m.
