this signing is independent of any defensive signings wenger is planning though.
The center-back is coming, don't see why chamberlain changes anything.
Signing defenders alone is not the answer!
The problem lies in the tactical set-up. We may not have the best centre-back selection in Europe, but it's not as bad as it looks.
Certainly, the players we have at the back should not play as poorly as they do.
you make it sound so very simple... we can't just go gung-ho and buy a defender like that... he has to suit our style (i.e needs pace). d'you really think buying one or 2 defenders is going to sort our situation? Really? We need to heavily change the way we think about defending, sadly there's been no evidence of that in pre-season.

Yes
Let's not ruin Alex's medical day by questioning Arsene
luck to you then my friend
What worries me is the money likely to be spent on this youngster.
Considering Wengers spending habits its unlikely that he will spend much more, having probably already spent over 20mil on the current new signings.
The kind of defender we are looking for wont come cheap in this market.
These are my concerns.
interview with david dein yesterday said he knows for a fact wenger is looking to sign two or three more players. as far as a defencer i think it's blatently obviously we will be signing one imo. just wait till end of transfer window tbh and then judge wenger.
Arsenal are still looking to sell players, will get good transfer fee and get them off the wage bill (Bendtner/Denilson). This is what will allow us to make an extra signing.
