Sorry, maybe I missed something, but are Cleverly and Welbeck not English Champs and full internationalists?

What is up for debate about them?

Evans is one. Long term successor to Rio.

But can you honestly say they would be if they didn't play for United? They are just average standard squad players, a bit like what Moses is to us and he'll likely get an England call up soon for one reason only and that's because he plays for one of the big teams, which is one of the main reasons Roy constantly put crappy Liverpool players in

i have more hopes for Welbeck than i do Cleverley tbh, Danny has great talent, he needs to be more composed in front of goal but his all round game is excellent

Everything is up for debate. England player means nothing these days. And average players still get medals. Evans is a good shout but he broke through about 3 years ago?

Januzaj

Januzaj, fingers crossed! But will they send him out on loan or give him a chance?

So forget the winning of caps and trophies as a way of judging a player...

Win as a team lose as a team...Unless your Welbeck or Cleverly then your gash and your team mates carry you to glory...

Realistically, Januzaj is 3 yrs younger than Hazard and already better...

Sorry 'oscar' but do your homework bud, or go and clean your room
And the article is about Academies. You never produced him, Palace did.

I'm only singling out those two as they came through the academy. If I wanted to debate average players winning caps and trophies then I'd of created an article about it and used a varying list of examples.

Man Utd supply a lot of clubs with players, usually at a profit, always a good thing.
I reckon nearly every club in the English Premiership has a player that at some stage in their early career spent time in MU academy.

Sorry Bob, I get that now.

Np Hector. Im not saying they will remain average, just couldn't use them as 'decent' as they still have a lot to prove.

Welbeck who was named MOTM in the Bernabeu? To say he's not good enough is just silly. Wellbeck got his call up to England following his performances for Sunderland. So you're wrong there, as well as the fact Moses plays for Nigeria

Rafael was signed when he was 16/17 well was he not.

posted on 13/8/13

Rafael backs up my point a bit. He didn't go through the usual loan out etc. Was stuck in the deep end and thrived. As for Welbeck the season before last he was eexcellent, last season he was average for most of it so yes he still has a lot to prove. One season doesn't make, nor break a player hence why I wouldn't write either clevs or welbeck off anytime soon.

'Renegade'..........................You've spoilt it! I was hoping 'oscar' would find that out for himself bud. But then again........

Bob

I just found out today that Dundee utd and Dundee with the SFA have a 'scholarship' thing going on, they have a few local 'open days' for the kids up to 16.
If you are any good and you're interested, they send you to a specific local school where they spend half the time at 'school' and half the time learning football.

A great idea for clubs with 1% of your budget.

You could make a pretty tidy team out of the players that have passed through our academy/reserves

Foster
Simpson, Pique, Evans, Shawcross
Cleverley, Pogba, Ravel
Welbeck, Pique, Januzaj

Rossi upfront, not Pique

Hector I don't know much about the actual academy setup I.e the way they recruit and train etc but more the step up to the first team squad. I just wonder if a different approach would be more effective.

Regarding the dundee idea that would be a big risk from an academic point of view if they didn't make it but could work wonders for those with the talent.

does rafael count as one of our youth players?

posted on 13/8/13

The fact is though, there is no right or wrong way to bring youth through, some thrive on being dropped in it, some freeze up, some have a great debut and then get complacent, some miss a chance and it seems to play on their mind (i think this happened to Frazier Campbell).

On a similar note, players don't make it for a variety of reasons, not just skill based. Pique, Pogba, Shawcross etc had the skill but couldn't get the break into the 1st team... Some can't handle growing up in that enviorment (Ravel... Even Welbz was getting a bit big headed and had to be taken downa peg or two, from what i hear)

If you count Pique and Pogba as having passed through your academy then Rafael obviously counts
