Unlike you, I'd like to see us competing in the CL and indeed competing in one off games against City and Chelsea. It's no coincidence that in recent years we've been knocked out of the CL by Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern, all of whom have much stronger midfields than ours. The same applies to the FA Cup in which we've lost out to Chelsea and City recently. Both times our midfield was overrun. In one off games we can't hack it. Luckily that doesn't matter so much in the PL as it's a marathon, not a sprint, and with our squad and mentality I think we'd win it this year even without signings.
I could have sworn we beat City in a one off game in the FA Cup recently.
And as for Chelsea, you seem to forget how shattered our side were after the Real game. And besides, our CM dominated Chelsea in the league cup when Chelsea had a much stronger team out.
You may not rate Fellaini but you also think we could get Gundogan for £25 million so that's a strange argument.
Ave to agree with captain objectivity. Not been arrogant but we are Manchester United, the supposed top team in England yet we struggle to dominate and control games against anybody. It is generally our strikers or defence that get us out of trouble.
How many times is our midfield bypassed. We need to strengthen the centre of midfield definitely and stop playing giggs in the big games.
We do not want Baines or Fellaini
Time to start a new scarf campaign
Reason for negativity: We're a club who for the past 5 years have not stepped forward in any way. The reason why our success has been so great is how we always prepared for the future. Like Steve McClaren said once "The morning after the treble, Sir Alex was planning to further improve". That stopped after 2009.
We may have won titles in these past 5 years, but that's because of how more forward we already were than all these other clubs. Our squad depth, our level of rotation, having a Manager like Sir Alex who always had this amazing ability of adapting to the times, pushing us over the finish line even with a handicap.
However now, clubs are catching up and our lead is not so big anymore. In Europe, we're not a powerhouse, we're not a team that anyone shivers at.
The reason why we are so negative is we have seen what happens when a shark stops swimming. Look at the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal. That could be our future if we don't ever push forward.

I know for a fact that the second they put on United shirts you'll get behind them because you're a good United supporter.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm sorry Dark and I like you very much as a poster but that is a joke of a comment.
In the last 5 years we've brought in/developed De Gea, Rafael, Fabio, Jones, Smalling, Cleverley, Welbeck, Kagawa, Powell, Januzaj, Petrucci and Zaha.
All young players who are part of our future. Sir Alex has left and Moyes is now managing the handover from settled side to new and exciting but it will take time.
To say we haven't moved forward in 5 years is utterly stupid.
I could have sworn we beat City in a one off game in the FA Cup recently.

I don't want Gundogan for 25 mil, see my article.
I'm not even referring to the replay, which was slightly more understandable, but the first game at OT where we nearly lost, having been dominated for all but the first 20 minutes.
More often than not, we will lose against the best sides due to the weakness of our midfield. We cannot hope to win the CL again or indeed the FA Cup without serious strengthening.
Sell Rooney and bring in Baines and Fellaini. This board is gonna be facking funny if that happens.
Reason for negativity: We're a club who for the past 5 years have not stepped forward in any way.
------------------------------------------------
How was signing the world's best striker* not stepping forward?
* I'm not even gonna put arguably any more... RVP is ahead of everyone
We look to be bringing in Baines and Fellaini. Whether you think they're massive improvements or not they both bring something different to the side and Moyes knows them better than any of us (I doubt ANY United supporter on here watched more than 3 or 4 Everton games last season).
---------
Our bid was rejected and laughed at by all reports.
We are top of the table and with RVP in such hot form we can only get excited about just how many goals he'll get this season.
------------
He has an history of injuries before last couple of seasons, if we rely on himt o hevaily there could be issues
Danny Welbeck is being played up front! And scoring goals! He is a local lad and his story is one of patience and determination.
-----------
1 competative game, lets see how he fares after 15.
You seem optimistic bordering on ignorant/delusional.

Do not be so sure, remember I have a gang plotting to get rid of Rooney
Darren
I for one would get popcorn and marshmallows and start bookmarking comments and then come back and laugh at them in a few months.
I'm already laughing at Wayne and Robin for mocking my prediction that Welbeck will get at least 15 goals this season if played as a striker.
Standard. Support Always.
However, I too can't see how Fellani advances UTD as a major midfield threat compared to Chelsea and City. Let alone Madrid Barca!
He's a good player yes. Dont think UTD will be worse off with him, but I don't see it as a major advance.
Cesc.CR7, even Bale. Yes we know the Central Mid needs the most attention.
If anything, I'd sooner prefer to go what we've already got than splash the cash for Fellani.
He has an history of injuries before last couple of seasons, if we rely on himt o hevaily there could be issues
--------------------------------------------------------------
When will people allow that injury past to be forgotten?
In the past 5 years he's had one serious ankle injury. FIVE YEARS! Rooney has had more injuries in that time frame.
I read a great stat today. Since January 2011 RVP has scored 75 league goals which is 26 more than anyone else, including Rooney.
Sell Rooney and bring in Baines and Fellaini. This board is gonna be facking funny if that happens.

That was my biggest fear when we announced we would be getting moyes.

Well, Thiago was always going to Bayern and Fab is at one of the world biggest clubs. Who else is available?
We want big signings because we want to be beating the likes of real barca and bayern in the cl. We are manchester united, we dont deserve anything till weve earnt it, but at the end of the day our cm hasnt been good enough for years now, probably since 09. A couple of good wins isnt going to change my mind that we need to bring players in
Captain Objectivity, I don't think it's a question of not wanting to do well in the Champions League. It's more about framing how we look at things. Do we choose to think of the success this existing side has achieved and hope that with certain improvements in the squad and new approaches to match preparation we can grow stronger, or do we think of winning the league as mere normality and refuse to take any pleasure from the game until we are undisputedly the best club side in the world?
Reason for negativity: We're a club who for the past 5 years have not stepped forward in any way.
----
EXACTLY.
The fact that we never adequately reinvested the Ronaldo money or replaced Tevez, Hargreaves, Rio (let's face it, as good as he is even now, he's nowhere near the level he was when we won the CL) and the master that was Paul Scholes. Ever since we lost the CL final in 2009 we've gone backwards. I for one gave us a good chance of winning it that year, but believe we fluked it in 2011.
And top quality players at that
To say we haven't moved forward in 5 years is utterly stupid.

Can you explain why we haven't sorted our the most obvious situation in our team for so many years? The only effort we have made is a bid for Fabregas, which was always going to be turned down.
We can buy all these players, but what use are they if we consistently get over run and over powered in the middle? We've come nowhere near close to winning the Champions League since, we're still playing Ryan Giggs in the middle and even required Paul Scholes to come out of retirement last time.
It may have been a bit of a silly comment as I should have rephrased it better, but the general basis of it was, we're not focusing on rectifying our weaknesses.
Can you honestly say you're happy with this situation?

We aren't even a powerhouse in Europe anymore, our midfield is WAY TO WEAK for us to be considered as such. I'm all for improvements to our squad, but certainly don't think Fellaini is the solution.
We already have a better centre midfield than Chelsea. Ramires and Mikel are crap.
