"I hadnt really heard of him before, your point being?"
Think the point is that AVB and Baldini had, long before the Confed Cup audiences had. Just like Overmars, Petit etc back in the days when Wenger was good.
Edin
My point is you haven't exactly seen him enough to beat your chest and claim he will be the player that will make you much better than Arsenal
I agree we shouldn't have announced we had a "warchest" and then failed to meet valuations of selling clubs. There was always the fear we would wait until after the CL play off to really go all out for players. We should have got Higuain or Jovetic at the start of the transfer window, before anyone else really got interested.
Just like Overmars

Are you suggesting Overmars was unknown before we signed him?
BTW, for all you Spurs fans who are experts on Brazilian league football there is a thread on it... feel free to contribute, as no one else seems to!

So in reality the article itself is actually a pretty good summary, and also echoes the sentiments of the vast majority of impartial football experts out there.

I never said anything of the sort. I do think he will probably be quiet good judging from what reports I have read about him. He has been OK so far.
Also the idea that you have spent the Bale without inflation is laughable because you have mostly paid release clauses and were about to sign Willian for a whooping 30m! Hardly bargains don't you think?
" Are you suggesting Overmars was unknown before we signed him?"
Very few PL watchers IMHO would have been truly aware of his abilities (I note Petit has been elided ) .
No VG, because it claims Spurs have not paid over the odds but they have. Selling Bale in June would not have changed the prices of any of those players.

Champions League winner with one of the most famous Ajax teams, Dutch regular...
And of course the mid 90s were very different to now. Back then foreign matches on TV were rare, with only Serie A getting extensive coverage. Now you get extensive coverage of Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Brasileiro Serie A, Eredivisie and every champions league game, plus the internet.
That's only your opinion though DJ...and with all due respect I would prefer to put my trust in the judgement of Baldini, AVB and Levy in assessing the value of the players to our club

You evidently fail to understand the concept of inflation.
Allow us to try and educate you.
If the "release clauses" are the lowest prices that can be paid, then the prices paid have not been inflated.
Contrast with Higuain.
Was the price Napoli paid his actual "release clause" price, inflated etc ??

And by definition the point still holds.
The world and his wife were not aware of Overmars.
Do you even know what a release clause is?
But they were RDBD (well football fans anyway). He was a massively highly rated player before his knee injury in 96. It was then his star dulled.
Right, i am off for a shower then down the pub. Nice talking to you lot.
Remember the Brasileiro Serie A thread!
Yes. Apparently it goes like this :
A club sets a minimum value X that must be offered to have a chance of acquiring a player from that club.
You then add one pound to X, and the club then immediately sells you the player.
Have I missed anything ??
I dont know anything about European football anymore as I only watch the PL and Roma these days
20th century, Edin.
In the 21st century you get people to watch Roma for you.
And Corinthians. And ...
Why are we engaging this pea brain?
You realise he is about 16 right?
You are debating with a child. Please stop.

Only thing i learnt was Spurs fans judge without the insight of actually watching players.
