I shudder to think what Van Persie would have done today
Might be a reality if Kompany isn't back for the derby game, but I think you'll sign a CB this week. Maybe that Demachelis bloke Pelligrini worked with at Malaga
Demachelis went to Athletico I think
But yeh CB cover does seem to be City's weakness.
Lescott and Nastasic are decent but without Kolo Toure you lack a vocal experienced man to keep the defense focused and in line.
Bridge.......
We should have got involved when Cahill was moving....
.....or we should have got involved when Thiago Silva was moving last summer.
Wiekens I know were your coming from and don't disagree, our problem though is unlike Ferdinand and Vidic we have an experienced and inexperienced pairing in defence. Rio and Vidic would be the natural pairing for United with either / or rested. If we got someone in as good as VK (not sure there are many about) they would expect to play all the time which means Nasty would find himself sitting out most matches. Its a difficult choice and am not sure there is an answer. Should we have let Kolo go? He wanted first team football so yes we should have done but a quick bid for Agger might be an idea as he has PL experience.
I think the top two CB's who arent at a mega club are Subotic, Hummels, Vertonghen, Koscielny and Godín.
Barzagli would of been a great little swap for Tevez aswell.
Don't know if you class psg as a mega club but thiago silva is better than any of them
they are rich enough to be a mega club. Silva is better than al of them but would cost over £40m the aforementioned will cost considerably less and City could entice them.
Lee1...
.....Nasty is a great kid and he had a superb season but we're in danger of ruining him as we did with young Savic.
Lescott had his peak season 2 yrs ago.
Nastasic should be back up to two senior men.
Agree about Agger.
I have no idea why City brought Garcia, he's slow & ponderous. Might be suited to Spanish football but certainly not looked good in England
Need someone in yes but they need a bit of pace....how long for Richards to be back?
Respected......
.....Richards is not a C/B.....he's a pretty good R/B
.....Garcia is not even a good D/M...let alone C/B.
We need a joint Gaffer to help Vinny out.
Have you no one in the academy? what about the Boyata lad?
I'd have thought Richards would be a good CB, seen him play a few times.
Or not tall enough?
No, Micah is definitely a big lad.
You're missing my point......
Micah can do a job at C/B
Pellegrini obviously thought Garcia could do a job at C/B.......
......hell, even Zabba CAN do a job at C/B.
But, I'm not talking about "doing a job".
Am not talking about "make do and mend" or anybody from the academy who will be behind Nastasic.
I'm talking about a permanent solution to a problem that very nearly cost us our title season......and definitely cost us last season.
No.....a World class C/B...a 2nd in command.....a Gaffer in waiting.
Hopefully before next week.
KotB, Demichelis went to Atletico on a free as back up for Miranda & Godin, they'd be more than happy to let him go for 5M or so.
That said, he's awful.
Have to say, despite what Campbell said, the issue was more with Zabaleta than the CBs yesterday. First half, Lescott dealt with him absolutely fine.
I agree though, we could do with cover. I'm still
not convinced it was right to sell Toure...
I think last season Nastasic proved that he doesn't need to be 'third choice', he is good enough to start games, and I see no reason why we should bring someone in to change that. We do need a cb absolutely no doubt. Micah can do a job there, but then that leaves us short at RB, plus, lets not forget the combination of Richards & Dunne where Dunney spent most of his time trying to make amends for Micah's mistakes - yes he has come a long way in that time, but he is a full back, not a centre back by trade.
Not sure why we sold Kolo either. Definitely don't feel we missed a trick with Cahill though
