It all depends how this season goes tbh, if he plays all the big games like i think he will he might be tempted to stay.

Yeah, contract talks aren't apparently open till we hit 2014 so these next three months will be interesting.

So he can have another meltdown in two years? Ubited have a problem as Rooney has gone a little stale at the club. However, they can't just sell him in case he finds form or becomes the player we all thought he'd become. He could always end up as the new Torres.

He'll stay imo. If he doesn't move this summer, his opportunity will pass him by. Other, younger and more fashionable names will be targeted by Chelsea and other clubs.

Honestly it's an absolute no brainer for me: If someone like Giggs pulled him to aside and said the following to him, he'd sign the dotted line:

"You know what makes a great football career, knowing you left a mark in football. Millions play football, but not many get to change history. I changed history at Manchester United with my appearance total. You can change history with your goal tally and become the highest goal scorer for Manchester United. If you go elsewhere, all you'll be is another player that played for this club and another name on another clubs team sheet."

I, of course, stand by my view on him since this all came out. Great player and all, and in 2010 I backed him because he had a point. This year, he acted like a spoilt child, who's not happy winning things. I would have happily sold him to a foreign club. If you're not happy here, you won't be anywhere.

I think his maturity about the situation, not acting out to the media like Suarez, not turning up to training like Bale, at least helps win some fans over.

I remember him 10 years ago getting wound up and into fights with players, he's changed so much since then.

Great, let's tie him down to another lucrative contract so that he can do the same thing in two years.

I'd rather we let him go on a free than pandering to him.

Another point is this new contract could be to protect Rooney's value as well. Falcao signed a new contract with Porto shortly before he was sold to Atletico. Makessense

It should be another year before the next saga with him. His heart isn't in the club whether he stays or not

As a professional on a huge amount of money he'll do his job. On the pitch he'll want to win no matter what goes on off the pitch

He'll be fine this season but clearly RVP is the main man.

Sign him up.

I would rather let his contract run down than be tied to this urchin in an exorbitant contract.

No please. If an offer comes for Rooney around 40-45m I will sell him.
His performance on Monday was exaggerated. He did very little apart from a bit of hustle and bustle and a couple of long shots. His highlight of the game was tracking back and tackling of Ramires.

Agree with W&R, not about the selling part but people were going way OTT about Rooney's performance. He was average, nothing special.

-----------------------------
How on Earth has he acted like a spoilt child?

He's been professional about this from day 1 unlike some. Bale refusing to turn up at Spurs. Suarez gobbing all over the place. Cabaye not being right to play after arsenal bid. What about when Berba wanted to leave Spurs and the way he acted?

Chelsea have made 2 bids and all Wayne has done is get his head down, get fit after posting how gutted he was about getting injured pre-season. He's trained with the reserves by his own choice to help speed up is fitness, he's came on at Swansea and made an impact and he was arguably man of the match v Chelsea despite Jose continuing to talk about him and intimating another bid was coming in. He also seemingly not going to put in a transfer request despite the papers trying to convince us of the opposite 2 weeks ago

Rooney may have issues for sure. He may still want out for his own reasons. That is up to him but in no way has he ever acted like a spoilt child. he's been utterly professional despite what the red tops try and convince us.
