Have you ever thought that top players simply don't want to sign for us??

quit whining, they can't buy players that don't want to come to us.

That's what I'm saying though...we need to encourage them with larger signing-on fees and bigger wage packets. Money that would be made back if we got back into the top-4.

Worked at City and Chelsea so why not for us?

Shouldn't we blame the scouting team and Ayre instead of the owners? They have clearly put the money forward to spent, but players are being picked up by clubs who offer over the odds and are better clubs then us.

You can't blame the owners for that!

Maybe we need to start paying over the odds then to get in proven quality! That's what FSG cannot see if you listen to BR's conference.

There is no real evidence to suggest FSG won't loosen the purse strings

They spent £35 million on Andy Carroll....£35 million and look what happened! I'd rather they learnt from that than continued to sanction silly deals

£20 million for Downing....£15 million for Allen...£11.5 million for Borini....£12 million for Sturridge...£9 million for Charlie Adam!

They will spend money however they can't keep throwing good money after bad.

We've got Allen & Borini on the bench who I'm afraid don't look up to it (although granted, they need more time) and have just authorised huge loses on Carroll & Downing...be realistic and include the £30 million plus they have just written off on those 2 players!

ITS NOT ABOUT PAYING OVER THE ODDS!

We put the money forward, but the players picked better teams. How can no one see this lol?

But we have made a net spend of +£3m this summer... nowhere near enough to be challenging for top-4.

What we need is a quality marquee signing to raise everyone's spirits! A signing ala Navas, Negredo, etc!

But we've written off £30 million plus for Carroll and Downing!

Got to be a factor in spending decisions

You just named two players who went to a title contending side who offer Champions League football. Can you not see why we can't but these players? It's not about the money!

We might have only spend £3m net, but it's clear we are looking to spend another £25m, and that's without selling anyone!

wow cmon!

I meant that's not the problem! We have the money, but don't have title credentials or European football to attract them.

the cheque book has been out and wide open. 3 players we went for in the £25-30mil range and they all went to CL clubs instead

we're just not a club worth joining for top players

Writing off £30 million plus should be relevant. I'm sure it is to any sensible business managers

It will probably make them more aware of the risk factors involved hence if there is an extra £5 / £10 million needed they are less likely to take the gamble.

I'd hardly call Willian & Mkhitaryan top stars. They have it all to prove this season. An improving Liverpool with Stevie & Luis to play with will always be an attraction if the finances are right
