There is no need for us to play 3 at the back because teams play with 1 up top as a norm which leaves you with 2 defenders marking themselves.
It also leaves you 1 short in midfield and id rather have hendo or allen in rather than a 3rd cb.
Sakho is extremely strong and quick but not a ball player so he will most likely be partnering agger rather than replacing him.

..................mignolet
........toure.....sakho.....agger
johnson....gerrard.....lucas....enrique
....................coutinho
...............suarez.......sturridge

this isn't a bad option though!

Still prefer coutinho, sturridge, suarez, hendo/aspas/allen hovering around or in the opponents area with johnson and enrique about 20 yards in the opponents half hogging touchline and gerrard laying back waiting and only agger toure and lucas sitting back rather than agger toure sakho and lucas sitting back.

some people view 3 at the back as an 'extra' defender and defensive

Others view it as one less and more attacking

I lean towards the latter

well i'd say that formation is built to counter attack. if we're expected to be doing a lot of defending in a game this could be a useful system. basically defend deep and get the ball the front 3 early and let them do their thing. Napoli did this when they had cavani hamsik and lavezzi

Yes they had lavezzi hamsik and cavani.
Each one is better than anything we have.

I really like a 3-5-2 formation, i even posted something similar (diff players) a few days back expressing the benefits of it to our system with the players involved.
One or two commented on it being good although the majority didn't like the formation.
With 2 up front, I find that it makes it difficult for the opposition's full backs to advance in an attacking sense as they need to cover their CB's.
That's one of the merits of this system, I could go on but I might get carried away with it all !!

Anyway any more news regarding the imminent arrival of these two new CB's ?
