Samir, yes it would be great to do a little bit of workforce / forward planning. A Flamini, Viera, (Peter Nicholas - showing my age) Type DM of around 23/24 years of age would be ideal. I think it is Arsenal's missing link / golden thread and sadly one that Wenger has ignored since Gilberto / Edu really

Bradford, Birmingham, Blackburn...

Barcelona, Bayern... were we on par with them recently or were they just one offs?

That did answer the question. In the league we have decline, but overall achieve what our team was capable off.

However in the cups we have severely underachieved, regularly being embarrassed by clubs very below our level.

A wenger 442 and 433 are both more like a 4231 anyway

Cups are one off matches I could bring up that we were the only team to beat Bayern at the Allianz this year. Just as valid as your cup mentions. Wenger has been doing a good job on a limited budget, why not get behind him for his first season in a long time that he hasn't lost a key player and has brought in our first world class player in around a decade.

AWW

We beat Barcelona at half time. We lost the tie overall.

As for Bayern, we still the lost the tie overall and considering how easily they strolled the first leg, they seemed complacent in the 2nd leg. We did well defensively though.

Look I see why that may be a cynical outlook, but the reality is, Wenger has underachieved in cup competitions, and in 07/08 and 10/11, he underacheived in the league as well. As a manager, he is responsible for the team. Getting paid a salary that is the 2nd highest in Europe and not winning anything for 8 seasons is not acceptable, in my eyes, and one world class signing should not mask his shortcomings overall.

I understand you will strongly disagree with my post, and idiots like the Godfather will be spewing abuse at me left, right and centre, but that's just how I see things.

Yet the the cup matches with Blackburn, Birmingham and Bradofrd are applicable?

Let me guess, this is now better than a trophy? Clutching at straws or what. Can't wait until people like you are PSG fans when you follow your dictator. Wenger makes his comment about brainwashing and you follow your master with the 'must have read it in the Sun, Daily Mail' comments. Haven't brought a paper in about ten years and wanted Wenger out since 2007 as could see where it was going - purely based on my opinion of the football we played and his behaviour as main representative of Arsenal. You do realise we were actually rather a famous side before Wenger cam along, don't you. Or were you actually born then?

AWW - I will get behind the team - but I will not endorse Wenger. This is deja vu all over again, for AKB's and I genuinely hate to see you disappointed - every season we have our hopes raised and dashed come Jan/Feb/Mar, and I've had enough of inaction and staleness from AW. Don't get me wrong - he was one of the best, and I would have loved to see him go out on a high - but he has destroyed all that brilliance a long time ago.

Cups are one off matches
----

So winning nothing for 8 seasons is acceptable because cup games are ''one off matches''? I sincerely hope the players don't share this same attitude and quite frankly, the fans shouldn't have this mentality either. We need to take cup competitions more seriously, we are/were meant to be one of the elite clubs.

I can understand why you see it that way but i think the 8 years without a trophy is blinding some fans from the truth that during them 8 years Wenger has overachieved. With a budget of zero how many other managers could pull it off?

He hasn't had a budget of zero.

Cup matches are one off matches. The cups are unpredictable, anything can happen, judge the overall ability of the team through the league. You wouldn't say that Chelsea were the best team in Europe when they won the CL would you

AWW, I have clearly stated that I am behind Wenger this season. The article says 2014. That is when his contract runs out, not yesterday, today or tomorrow. With the previous years overlooked, he has earned the right to fulfill his contract. That doesn't mean I don't have the right or am any less of a fan to have an opinion on his future after this season.

Your Bayern mention is not 'valid' as I'm talking about CONSISTENT under-parr performances in the domestic cups. The key being COSNSISTENT under-parr performances. Not a one off, a consistent under achieving against teams who are no where near our standard of competition. A one-off I could happily forgive, but it's not a one-off it's a regular occurrence. Clearly identifying Wenger's inability to 'fire-up' and motivate his players.

Agree about Cod Piece - I do admire AWW however for attempting to put a view across for an AKB - plenty of time to cross over AWW

Oh AWW - have you checked the accounts - available for the last 3-4 years, or checked out Swiss Gooners blog on the cashflow. To state a zero budget is a tad foolish.

On that logic - you may as well support a conference league side.
