depends how much money they are looking for him

His release clause is 30million euros, but thats above what they expect for him. Their owner said 10million euros would not be enough. If we offer 15million euros which is just over £13million. It should be enough
Would like him at the bridge, rate him higher than moutinho
well if we could get him for 13 million it would be good
I also rate him higher than Moutinho, reporters say he was more important to their season than than Moutinho was. He's a good, all round midfielder, can pass, score, defend, dribble etc.
Say if he came for £15m thats £15m less than Modric, and they money used could be saved for a winger or RB? Looks like a win win for me!
He and Modric are different midfielders although. Modric is a deep-playmaker, Guarin is similar to players ilke Vidal, Essien at his prime etc.
But if we buy Guarin we are unlikely to buy Modric too, as we'll have Lampard, Essien, Mikel, Ramires, Bennayoun, Romeu and Josh as centre mids :/

Personally I don´t see that as a major problem.
Modric would have been a good addition to our squad but I really don´t think he´s worth all the fuss that has been made surrounding his potential transfer.
Anyway we already have the likes of Benayoun and McEachran who can do what Modric does.
I know, I can't see the club buying two midfielders this window.

Correct me if I´m wrong but I don´t think we have the space for two more non-homegrown players in our squad unless we sell.
Unless I´m mistaken we have one place left for a non-homegrown player having sold Zhirkov.
So if we did sign Gaurin that would fill all the available places.
Unless the player coming in was homegrown or U-21, like Eriksen or Pjanic. Right now we have two spaces left but once Essien comes back he'll take the final one

So basically we have one space left for a non-homegrown player if we consider that Essien will return at some point this season ?
Yep
just writing thisbit to get past spam..
I think we should forget Essien.
If he eventually comes back and is the Essien of old - well thst will be a bonus. But we should assume that won't happen.
We need a Modric Type player much more than we need an Essien replacement. That is what Guarin is. we need someone to dictate the tempo of our midfield and keep everything moving. Guarin is not that player. Modric seems to be completely misunderstood here if people think him and Benayoun are even slightly comparable.
Guarin is a great player, but we need a Modric type player more. This doesn;t have to be Modric, there is Moutinho, Banega etc, but it certainly isn't Guarin.
Real Madrid found Modric out last season, he was rubbish against them. I don't understand all this hype about him. 22 million at best.
I would rather we pay 60-70 million for Thiago than waste 30+ million on Modric.
Whether you rate Modric or not. Mceachran is a a few ears away from playing week in week out, to bridge that gap we need a midfield player who can dictate the tempo of our midfield. Last season so many moves stalled because of us lacking this player. Like I said, whether it is Modric or not, we need someone like this. we missed the best option when Nuri Sahin signed for Real Madrid.
You are right, but thr prices quoted for Modric are ridiculous.
He only started 10 games last season, and was complaining on his twitter because he wasn't playing enough. Don't want him.
I agree. but it's not my money, I couldn;t care less how much we pay.
Personally I think Hernanes of Lazio or Ever Banega of Valencia would be excellent options but we haven't been linked to either. Moutinho will cost £35m and Modric is at least premier league proven.
On the Madrid match. Spurs play with basically 2 in the middle and Modric was well up against it in those matches trying to hold the midfield together himself with VDV never filtering back and Sandro basically just running around aimlessly. We play 3 in the middle and Modric will have better players around him. I think Modric would be a huge success at Chelsea
I think Thiago will become one of the best midfielders in the world, but he has already made public that he turned down a chance to speak to us already. it's a non starter.
