He's not a bad keeper but we can do a lot better than him. He simply doesn't convince me.

Totally agree op, He's young so will make mistakes, for all his errors, he does save us alot of the time aswell. He's a die hard gooner aswell, will never forget that celebration vs barca.

Somone tell him if you can't hang onto a shot, please stop pushing it out to opposing players, put it behind for a corner.

We have conceded 4 goals this season (in 5 games).

Of the 3 against Villa, he took our Agbonlahor for the first penalty and was fortunate to stay on the pitch. That goal can be attributed to the defenders and midfield (leaving a gaping chasm in the middle of our team).
The second goal was from a decent Koscielny challenge that shouldn't have been given as a penalty (not Woj's fault).
The third goal was on the break when we were chasing, the shot was decent and not Woj's fault that it resulted in a goal.

The other goal conceded was against Fulham. That was a brilliant save from Berbatov that ran across goal to gift Bent a tap in. The fault lies with the defense allowing the pass to Berba and then allowing Berba space to turn and shoot (although it was a bit of magic from the Bulgarian).

This season Woj has been fine and apart from the first goal against Villa (which can be blamed massively on the CBs and Wilshere/Ramsey) he has done a good job making some spectacular saves against Fulham, Fenerbahce (especially in the second leg) and against Spurs.

People say he is average because 1) he has made some well documented errors in the past (think CC final against Birmingham) 2) he plays for arsenal and 3) football fans are notoriously dense (in general)

Can't recall him ever winning a game for us.

I would like to add that he isn't as good as De Gea (£18m), Cech (£7m in 2004), Lloris (£10m) and Mignolet (£9m) but at the same time he is not going to gift other teams points and was the mainstay in the second best defense in the PL last season.

Good goalkeepers make the difference in tight games that finish 1-0 or 2-1 and Szczesny is good enough to do that. You don't need to be the best to do a sufficient job (Cleverly wouldn't get into Chelsea, City or Arsenal's midfield but he is good enough to be part of a title winning team).

Football is a team sport and it is the collective that matters. Being the best in your position is for bragging rights only and who really cares about that because none of us are professional footballers and so the rights aren't ours anyways.

Think back 7 days then. If he doesn't make that excellent save against Spurs we draw or maybe even go on to lose that game.

maybe you missed the NL derby the other weekend. Pretty sure that counts as winning us the game (great save at 1-0 that meant we won 1-0).

Hes not bad but people tend to overate him Imo. There are plenty of keepers better than him atm but because we have been used to Almunia we tend to look past his flaws.

A few things that pee me off with him is that when we have a narrow lead he always put our defense under.pressure by.playing a quick ball out. Oh and hes carp with long shots.

posted on 8/9/13

He doesn't convince me also. More importantly he doesn't convince his defenders I reckon. Yes he is our keeper and we should support him and not put aditional pressure on him. But since Mad Jens left we have not had a keeper who has our back so to speak. Jens would run half way up the pitch to give a slap to anyone who so much as looked badly at an Arsenal player. He intimidated forwards not because of his skills as a keeper but because he was not scared of kicking an opponent when they were down. In fact `he enjoyed it. Chezza is just too nice.

If someone offered either Courtois or DeGea would you swap?

Id take Courtois in a heartbeat. Chelsea are lucky facks with Cech and this young beast.

You really cant watch much arsenal games can you?

If you were winning trophies all his mistakes would get far less attention.

That's how it works.

Not a dig, just pointing it out.

De Gea flapped (and missed) a couple of hundred crosses last season but because the title went to his club he got popped into the team of the season. And he is a very good keeper. But any negatives get erased when the club wins something.

Szczesny is a fine young goalkeeper. I think some people forget that he is only 23. Not many are the finished article at such a young age, yet he stands comfortably above most other 'keepers in the league, many of whom are older than him.

Bar the Villa game at the start of the season, he's looked assured, disciplined, and above all, reliable for us. I think that will continue from now on. He's not the the best in the league, nor is he in the top 3. But he has the potential to get there, and I fully believe that he will. He has everything in place to become a great goalkeeper, but he just needs to get his head down and work hard (which makes the Viviano signing pretty positive, as hopefully he, along with Fabianski, will keep Szczesny on his toes).

Szczesny is a good keeper and would do well in the lower half of the table. thats his level.

Put Szczesny in the United team of last season. They won the title by 11 points.

Are you honestly saying that that United would not have won the title if Szczesny replaced De Gea. If you are then you don't seem to understand that a goal keeper is only as good as the defenders in front of him and the system the team plays.

If you think that Szczesny is worth -12 points a season then Wenger must have cataracts to not see it himself.

Szczesny makes about 4 mistakes a game mate. only they very very rare occasion does he have a good one.

this is the team we need. I will not include a players name for the areas that need improving.

-------------------GK
RB-----CB-----------CB----Gibbs
--------DM-----Ramsey
RW--------Ozil--------Cazorla
-------------ST

All the positions that i havent put a players name in is the position we need to improve drastically

De Gea is better than Szczesny. When De Gea first came he flapped at crosses into the box and still did at the start of last season, but as the season went on, you could see he improved this aspect of his game and there have been matches where, were it not for De Gea, United may not have won or drew the match.

I still think we would have won the league last season if we had Szczesny, but with not such a point lead.

Sadly, that's bull. De Gea was criticised for it and every time he makes a mistake it is highlighted more often than not. Hart has been less consistant and making more howlers and it is only in the past six months that people in the media have suddenly noticed this.

If you are winning titles, mistakes are highlighted as much as any other big clubs.

Szczesny has never won us a game? This sort of statement shows people criticize out of habit rather than free thought. Not only did his save keep us ahead last week you look at games like Udinese and Liverpool where not only did he make penalty saves but also 2 or 3 other big saves at important times.
You can have an opinion, but please leave the boring rhetoric out of it.

CB? Kos and Mert? What's wrong with them?

RB?? Sagna and Jenkinson ??

kos only has 1 good game every 5 or 6 hes a liability

mert is too slow.

sagna is past it and jenkinson doesnt show enough quality to be top 4 standard

walcott has no football brain. without his speed he'd be a league 1 player
