I have two boys (3 and 9 months), wont be taking the eldest until he is at least 6, probably more like 8.
Any younger is a waste of money as they don't really watch the football.
Basically until they can watch a whole game at home without going off to play every 5 mins then its a no go.
I remember I went to a rugby match when I was like, 4-6 y/o. I say remember the rugby match. Only recollection I have of that day is people's backs and loads on shouting.
First football match was like, 7 or 8 which was a much better experience.
i went to my first match when i was 3 and i cant remember a bloody thing about it
To be honest mate, I took, my little girl whom was 2 and she was bored after 20 mins.
It's not so much the game but the noise when we bang one in might frighten the little one.
Congratulations by the way, really hard work being a father (I know I have 3 little girls and 1 boy) but is without dought the most rewarding thing you will ever accomplish.
I was 6 and do remember things about it but it was a very special day for different reasons...
I can see the point...
im thinking of tsarting with local football first. smaller crowds etc...
My Dad first took me when I was 7.
Even at that age, I vaguely remember that I was as fascinated by all the activity around me as by what was happening on the pitch.
I'm not sure I understood the finer points of the game , at that age (I don't think I'd have been able to say which of the players had played well or badly, for example), but I used to get butterflies in my stomach on tmatch-day morning, so I was old enough, at least, to enjoy it.
I know I supported LFC before that, because I remember the excitement of getting a kit for Christmas when I was 5, but I'm not sure how much younger than 7 it would have been worthwhile to take me.
Not much younger, is my guess...maybe 6, but 5 would have been pushing it.

Thanks mate same to you...
wife has just gone back to work so i finding out the hard way at min how hard it can be but i love it!
Must admit when we score and he's watching the telly with me i scare him..
Standing on a open terrace at Stamford Bridge watching Chelsea v Liverpool, and seeing Liddell and Fagan for the first time and freezing my b+++ocks off and I was aged 9/10
I remember my first night match more than my first game (proabably because I was older) but also walking up those big old steps and seeing the pitch for the first time under the lights was incredible..... still is a bit!
Taking a child to a game before they're toilet trained is a big no no.
Alas -you talk like a man with experience?
My son is 6 and he has a season ticket. Watches the whole match every time.
We took masterchalky to his first match aged 8 months on a one off spur of the moment. DH is a West Ham supporter and was desperate to indoctrinate the little man. He had ear muffs on to protect his ears and he loved it. The staff didn't charge us anything at Upton Park as he was obviously not taking up a seat and I reckoned they were glad of the support LOL.
He went to his first proper paid for match day experience aged 5, Liverpool v West Ham. He spent the 90 minutes fascinated by the huge clock at Anfield and never took much notice of anything else. So a fair few bob wasted on that one.
I'd wait until he is begging to go to the match at least aged 8 when the attention span is a bit longer and he knows who all the players are etc. You will both get more out of the experience.
Gave birth to my son, following Saturday took him to the match, dropped him on his head, never been the same since
My first agme was when I was 6 or 7 and that seems about right.
